What is a AK retaining plate?   it is clearly part of the the FC group.  What does it do?  is it required on a build if your are using a tapco G2 group?  Does it count for Compliance parts (US made of course)?

Thanks for all lof your help.

Dave

That replaces the shepards hook, that holds in the pins for hte FCG. Not a US compliant part, IIRC.

No, it doesn't count as a compliance part.  You can make your own pretty easily.  I made several out of an old hand saw blade and a dremel.  I prefer them to E-clips since the plates are really easy to remove and install.

Although I am not one, those I know who have them like them seem to love them. So no, they do not count towards your parts count but should be considered as part of your build. How are you going to keep your FCG pins in your receiver?
-Purchase orgional shepard's hook wire (approx $3)
-Purchase AK retaining plate                   (approx $12)
-Purchase e-clips at the local AceHardware (approx $0.79 per)

I had some titantium plates that were the same thickness as the retaining plates that I bought. I cut the plates to fit each build and do not have to fool with the shepards hook.
Plates were $0.00 as they were salesmans samples
