| Wolf 223 is steel cased and boxer primed. Has anyone tried reloading it? How did it work out. |

It works, not well, but it works. I have loaded them just to see what would happen. The first few were shot out of a T/C contender, and they worked well. I used 20-24 grains of BLC-2 behind a 50 grain bullet, and the newer polymer cases held up remarkably well to multiple loadings. The Laqqered cases did have some issues with sticking, and with the case mouth coating. Polymer Wolf cases were good for 3-4 reloads before the primers wouldn't seat right, but a little nail polish fixed that right up, at least until the next shot. I stopped after 6 reloads on one case. I did notice a few odd things, though. First, they almost needed no resizing after the first time - I attribute that to the T/C's tight chamber. The ploymer cases could be withdrawn from a sizer die with little more than finger pressure - albeit it requires a strong grip.. Also the length did not vary by more than .001 form 1 to 6 shots fired. Steel REQUIRES a carbide die, and really does not like case lube - that may have been the issue with the laqquer cases sticking. The expander, on the other hand needed to be lubed almost every time. Overall, it falls into the same category as reloading berdan primed brass, yes, it's possible, and, if you are careful, nothing bad will happen, BUT I would not do it unless I had NO OTHER CHOICE. With regular brass being so plentiful, there is no reason to do this except for the knowledge that you can.. |
