I know I'ts a repeated subject, but are these worth it?

They look hot. Period!

But, all I've heard from ProMag is TRASH! Anyone really torture one of these???
Aimsurplus.com has them for $15, a deal of they actually "work"!

Some guys say they bought Pro-Mags and have no problems with them, others say junk.  I have a black one but have never got around to trying it.  I have been tempted to buy some of the clear ones from Aim and would if they also had the OD green ones. In buying 5 you get them for $12.95.  As far as I can tell they have no metal reinforcement like my Bulgarian mags.

One guy posted here that he cut one up and stated they have metal in them, someone asked him to post pics but he never did.

Just a note about AK47 Promags. I have never used one but only read reviews from members here and on the AKFiles. I used a friend's this week and it ran perfectly time after time. I just hope these new "smoke" magazines were work.

thanks,
Ron

ProMags do not have steel reinforcements, and their springs are 1.5" shorter than all other 30 round AK springs.

However, the new ones DO work, and work quite well. There were actually 3 generations of ProMag black mags, the first and second obviously being the craptastic ones that jammed and were unreliable. Finally ProMag got their act together and produced the 3rd Generation style, one that actually works. All new black ProMags and these smoke ones will work well in your gun, but no, there is no steel reinforcement on the locking tabs or in the mag.

Could you (or even should you) replace the mag springs on these ProMags?

I just ordered 2.

The springs and followers are interchangeable. The baseplate isn't. On the new mags you do not NEED to replace the springs but you can.

Are there any markings on the 3rd Gen mags to distinguish them from others?

thanks,
Ron

I would imagine all the smoke ones are third gen, yeah?

Hopefully. It'd be nice to have some mags that won't rust over time.

All the smoke mags are 3rd generation style.

As far as the black waffle mags, it is hit or miss. I am pretty sure the ones being sold by AIM now (black waffle) are 3rd Gen. mags but as far as I know there are no markings to distinguish them.

I took out my clear mag and tested it out. It worked perfectly every time except the very last round would fail to feed every time. I do not know if it has something to do with the follower or what. But the nose of the round would go above the chamber and the rim of the case would still be in the magazine.

It only did this with the very last round each time.

Is the follower at an angle, IE, is the front of it higher than the back? And was the bolt on TOP of the cartridge rim or behind it?

I have only experieced this with the best rifle ever invented, the Ruger Mini-30 (ah hahahahahahaha...). This is usually a follower problem. Switch out the follower with another mag you have and see if it still works. If it does, then boom, compare the two followers and it should be some simple cutting to make the ProMag follower work.

How are the ProMag followers on the smoke mags designed? If they have a flate base on the end of the follower as opposed to rounded, then you could try cutting the two bumps out from the inside of the mag. This would make the follower push ALL the way up when feeding which could solve the problem, and if it doesn't, then you still get a BHO mag.
