Some people rate them as the best pre-ban you can buy. What do you guys think?  What do you think is the best pre-ban out there, as far as fit and finish?

The Legend I bought back in '88, the milled receiver was not heat-treated.  Still, Chinese quality was very good if you wanted an AK look alike.  Personally, I'd go with a Valmet or Galil.  If the purpose is for a collection, then the Legend would make a nice safe queen.

I owned a PolyTech Legend back in 1988 and sold it in 1990.   Please don't ask why.

It was beautiful but..................................I now own an Arsenal of Las Vegas, SA M-7 A1.   I believe the fit and finish is better than the Legend.  I know I don't have the Legend now to do a real comparson but I find it hard to beleive the Legend could be any better.

Rambosky is right. I have an Arsenal SA M-7 A1 and a NIB Polytech Legend full stock. The fit and finish is better on the former. The Legend is just a lot more collectible.

IMHO, the "best" "pure AK" prebans......

Yugoslavian AK's imported by Mitchell's or American Arms, marked AK-47 or RPK, and the FEG SA-85M's, 7000 were imported, 4000 underfolders and 3000 fixed stocks.

The Legends are really nice guns, but I sold mine when I discovered the Arsenal Inc. rifles, especially the Classic.

You forgot about the internal parts.  Arsenal use free-floating firing pin, and non-chromed bolt carrier and bolt, not sure if Arsenal uses single or double hooked trigger.  Yugo, please don't bring  it up, their aks don't even have chrome lined bores.

Galil is not exactly an AK.  It's a later design that uses AK actions.

Not to get in a pissing match here, but NO AK uses a chromed bolt carrier or bolt; none.

The Polytechs and other Chinese rifles bolt carriers are in the white, unfinished steel.

Arsenal Inc. milled rifles use double hook triggers, which are correct for the milled receiver.

Arsenal Inc. firing pins have been spring loaded for the past two years.

And just because the Yugo's don't have chromed bores.......don't count them out.

You might try handling/firing some of these rifles.

Don't forget that Valmets and the Sako Rk 95 don't have chrome lined barrels either.

IMO, the only rifles that NEED chrome lining are AR's. On any other rifle it's nice to have but hardly necessary.

It's a hell of a lot easier to clean.

"best pre-ban out there, as far as fit and finish"
FEG SA85M either pre or post-ban, as long as you get one of the all-FEG ones brought in before the importation ban (which started the 'U.S. parts' thing). These came with thumbhole stock, 10-rd mag, plain-end barrel and no bayonet lug. Mine is #17xxx. There's one on gunbroker and one on Auction Arms. the one on AA has the short AMD gas system and a threaded muzzle, which I think is a retro-fit.
