While bumping my new AK the Bolt Carrier has come part way out of the right side rail. Both times it has locked up and Ive had to remove the cover and slap the top of the carrier to get it to go back into the rails. Is there a fix to keep this from happening or is it something I should worry about? Its not a real big deal to me because it just takes a sec to fix but Id like to square it away if I can. Also where can I get a that piece of sprind steel that goes into the bottom handgaurd to keep it tight.Someone had installed a US Furniture set allready but they didnt put that piece in.Bugs the shit out of me.Man if Id have known the Dark Side was such a blast Id have shipped the whole AR mess and bought a couple AKs instead.Later,45B10

like we have been telling you...the darkside is addictive!

For Some reason the return spring(that fits into the carrier), is not stopping the carrier, until it is too late. Do you have one off of another AK that you could try? I would give that a shot first.

If by "piece of spring steel" you mean the flat tension spring that sits in the front of the handguard and pushes the forend back, there is none in any of the Chinese guns.  That's a mod that was incorperated in late model Euro AKMs only.  If your replacement forend is moving back and forth, put a glob of epoxy putty around the front tenon of the forend, so the front band will push it back, or better yet, get a new Chinese foreend to replace the replacement. TAPCO sells them, brand new, for $9.99 (part no. AK2204)

Go to redstar arms page and get this:

AK-47, VALMET, GALIL
BUFFER TECH RECOIL BUFFER

The AK/Valmet Recoil Bufferâ„¢ fits on the recoil spring guide rod of any Kalashnikov style weapon. This includes AKs, Valmets, Galils, and MAK 90s, just to name a few. Installation takes less than a minute and can be done without any special tools. What makes the kalashnikov action so reliable, is also what causes its inevitable downfall, the violent manner in which it works. Each time you fire your rifle the gas system propels the bolt carrier to the rear very violently, which generates a shock wave that is absorbed by the metal receiver. After a period of time, this repeated pounding causes the action itself to lose its structural integrity. The most notable side effect of this is the difficulty one has in controlling the weapon during rapid fire. By installing a Recoil Bufferâ„¢ you totally eliminate the metal to metal impact of the bolt carrier to the receiver and most of the action noise.

It will shorten your bolt travel just enough to keep it from jumping out of its groove.

the rpk recoil spring may also fix this problem. similarly, stretching your spring may also help.

k-var may have some extra tension spring plates. give them a call.
