Acquired an AK mag through a trade that has this stamped on the steel rib running along the spine:

I think it is just an unrelated mark by another manufactuer. HK did make some HK32 series rifles in the early 1970's in 7.62x39 but were quickly dropped. Those rifles used a standard HK box design curved for the 7.62x39 round.

Do you know why they were dropped? Lack of interest or gun problem?
The answer is probably in your question.. WHY??? Why the extra expense compared to the readilly avalible AKMs on the world market? I think most potential customers that would be interested in the cartridge, would look towards the AKM..
