I purhcased a MAK 90, and I would like to switch out the thumbhole stock with a standard AK type black pistol grip http://www.gunaccessories.com/AK47-MAK90/ak002.jpg  and wood stock http://www.gunaccessories.com/AK47-MAK90/ak138.jpg

How difficult would this be to do, and who sells these parts the cheapest?  Thank you very much.

On a side note, how does the MAK-90 compare to the other AK clones out there like the SAR-1 and WASR-10?

Do I have to buy a stock set designed specifically for the MAK-90, or will any AK furniture fit into the gun?  Thank you, and any help will be appreciated!

Quoted:
K-VAR has the parts you need.  Be sure to buy the American made parts for compliance.

Your parts may require a little fitting, but nothigna monkey on crack couldn't figure out.

The Mak-90 is a very good AK rifle.

obershutze916 is definetly right, I'm partial to my Mak, but you will have to make that one 922 compliant.

MAK90's have a thumbhole stock. If  you switch to a pistol grip and stock you will have to make sure your rifle has at least 5 U.S. parts. 3 eay parts to install is a new trigger group. Like TAPCO's G2 trigger group. Takes maybe 15 minutes to install. That and an american made pistol grip and rear stock would keep you compliant.

My MAK90 is worlds better than my friends WSAR-10. Shoots about the same except his trigger was much worse than mine stock. Now mine is even better with the tapco trigger. WSAR-10 looks very crude side by side with my mak90. But they function the same pretty much.

BTW pretty much any ak47 stock is gonna fit your mak90.

Is there a way to tell, through receiver number, if I have the square cut receiver or the angled cut one?  Thank you.

My # is 94252xx

And the part numbers are  252xx

And the stock won't fit if it is not square?  I forget which it is and it is not here with me.  Just tell me, what % of square ones were made versus angeled ones?  Were only the forged one's angeled?

I wish I would have known the ban was going to sunset about 3-4 months ago. I wouldn't have wasted my money on the choate dragunov stock. It is a NICEly built stock but now I am wanting a folder or a telestock and a pistol grip. Actually I want a lot of things...like a 3 rail system, bi-pod, vert grip, and a flashlight....I need a better job.

I love my Mak90, I have a pre-ban stock on mine, it's very easy to do. I think my Mak90 is better than my Maadi MISR.

Its funny because my MAK was costs less than crappy wsar-10s at the same place...I think it was because of the thumbhole stock. Oh well.

A mak will be a bit better finish than Romanian's generally and are great Ak's..Put a US made stock set and US made trigger group and you'll have a nice AK 47..You may have to widdle and wiggle a bit to fit you're butt stock but it is easy...If you have any problems jump on here and ask..

Anyone know a good place to buy cheap wood buttstocks?

Are the bolts on the MAK chromed?  They look it!!  That would be another advantage over the other AKs.

Give a call to ORF and see if they have any more of the WASR/SAR take off sets.
With a little sanding and some tru-oil they look great.

I bought a Mak from Jicky in the EE and it is a great AK. I like it much better than the SARs my friends have. I got a Tapco folder, M249 pistol grip,  and fire control group from scottgull in the EE, and got a US handgaurd set from a buddy. It was easy to do, affordable and my Mak is legal, and now 300% cooler.

I am wanting to add a pistol grip to mine...I used to hate the pistol grips and stocks but now I want one. It will probably be synthetic though. Or an AR one or something different.
