Your best bet would be to check aroudn in your area at every gun and pawnshop around. As for new guns the Romanians are about the only AKs that could be considered widely available everywhere, but don't dismiss the idea of a used gun. You are likely to find several lightly used MAK90s in your are one or two of them will likely be priced reasonably.

Do you know of a local gundealer willing to do a transfer for you?  

I don't own one but the AK-M70AB2 Yugoslavian AK M70AB2 7.62x39 Under-Folder Rifle at Aim seem to be a good deal if they have them in stock and if you like underfolders.  With a US receiver and new US barrel the issues with corroded barrels is nil. The price seems to be a hell of a deal over a WASR.  I would get one at that price.

A WASR isn't a bad deal if it functions right and you are able to get one under $350.00.  More than I ever paid for a SAR-1 though.

Like Lightning_P38 said the MAK-90 may be found. Dealers or pawn shops are sometimes good places to find them and are a good choice if you find one under $400.

Romys can be fine (I enjoy mine) but it helps to handpick for occasional QC errors like canted sights. Best bet locally is to try the hometown forum for tips on shows/shops, and somebody may even walk you thru.
