I just put a set of K-var synthetic furniture on my SAR-1 and now the handguard retainer lever is loose.  I mean it doesn't snug up to the barrel at all.  Is this a bad thing?  I was thinking of putting some JB Weld in the channel and then filing it down until the lever catches.

I installed the clip, but the retainer lever is still very loose.  In fact, there's no tension on it at all.  The retainer itself had to be tapped on, but what about the lever?

If you have a center punch, you can dimple the cross shaft where it rotates into the groove on the barrel. This should add more tension on the lever, and keep it tighter. Let me know if you need pictures.
