Well depending on if your considering using rivets or screws, there will be different tools required. Search the previous posts, there has been alot of activity as of lately concerning screw builds. I have a post tacked above on the first page that goes into the process involved with my build. I show pics of the screw together process with some tool info. If you go with the screws and a pre-bent receiver (FFL required) then simple shop tools will do. If you want a receiver flat (No FFL required) then purchasing a bending jig may be the best route. Riveting will also require investing in pneumatic tools and bucking bars, also a press for removal and reinstallation of the barrel. You can also collect the necessary parts and send the whole thing out to one of the AK smiths here on the board. I know this is not a true DIY AK but sort of falls inbetween a factory built and a complete garage built DIY. Surf the previous posts, decide which build method you want to use and then let us know if you have more questions! |

I think that the 80% receiver flats come with pre-drilled holes. You complete it into a functioning receiver by bending it into shape, welding the rails into place, then heat treating. Some flat bending info here. Have you looked through the tacked pages above, and the previous posted threads? There's quite a bit of flat bending material covered already. |
