I have to admit, I haven't cleaned any of mine in a while. I probably should, but I haven't. I shoot new manufacture non-corrosive 7.62x39 ammo through mine so it's not a huge deal. I also don't shoot hundreds of rounds through each. I put two or three mags through each per range trip. I guess I should clean them though. Maybe this weekend...after I get back from the range.

if I shoot more than a mag, I detail the whole thing. I just can't sleep knowing my gun is dirty
It all depends on what ammo I am shooting
Corrosive ammo = Clean right away Commercial ammo = never clean |
I have a sort of obsessive thing about dirty guns. I cant even go poo upon ariving home from the range without cleaning my guns first, so far it hasnt been a problem
Do you clean your dick after sex? Same thing with a gun....If you want to use it again and expect it to work, you better clean it.....
I clean AKs religiously - once a year or every 5K shots, whichever comes first.
Yup, clean mine after each range session. Bugs me if I don't. I don't get crazy though, just a patch or 2 through the bore and a quick wipe-down of the internals.
Not for the need- but for the pure fun- I shoot it -then get to play with it some more before putting her away.....
If I shoot corrosive ammo I will clean it after the range trip. Other than that, about every 6 months.

I had a latina girlfriend that got all pissed if I didn't want to go to bed all glazed. I always clean my firearms after shooting, but I don't always detail strip them. |
Army training (1960s) = clean it as soon after firing as practical, every time. So I still do.
i voted no because it's usually a once a year or more type thing. usually 2-4k through it before i clean.
a clean gun will never jamb because it was dirty. I keep ALL my guns cleaned and lubed up properly.
I dont clean my go-to guns very often; only if I have extra time at the range so I can shoot a mag through afterwards. Taking things apart and then putting them back together without a live fire function check on a "working" gun gives me the heebie-jeebies.
I have one WASR that I don't ever clean and 3 Lancasters I clean after every shoot.
I always clean every firearm after I shoot it. No ifs ands or buts.
Cleaning my guns is therapeutic, and usually a good way to get quiet time to myself. I admit that I spend more time fondling my firearms more than cleaning them. My wife will never understand...
do more wear to them by cleaning (like cleaning barrel) if you only shoot 30 rounds and clean each range trip than if you dont. No harm.
Its an AK, I only clean after a ton of rounds OR if i shoot corrosive i clean right after |
I clean after a long day shooting. If I've only put a mag or two through it, i don't.
I only clean them becuase of the corrosive ammo I shoot. If the ammo was non corrosive, I would have an extra 12 hours a month to do something much more enjoyable than cleaning AKs.

My AKs have ruined me. I used to clean everything within a week or so of shooting, now it may months if I remember at all. I had my 92FS jamming a lot once, and I couldn't figure out what was wrong with the damn thing. Oh yeah, it was totally dry and hadn't been cleaned in 8 months.

I didn't before then my SAR2 rusted shut after shooting commercial ammo. Barnual and wolf. Had to use my foot to get it open.
With the cheap corrosive stuff, you bet. |
I don't do a drill sergeant approved cleaning but I do clean after every range trip. Take care of your guns and they will take care of you. This was drilled into me back when I wore funny green clothes and worked long hours for low pay.

Yes and no. When I get a hair up my ass, sure. Normally, no.
Yes, well usually yes
I have been trying corrosionX on my rifles. Usually my FSC47 brake shows a lot of rust the day after shooting corrosive ammo if i dont clean. Its been 4 days after i shot ~300 rds of bulgy thru my tantal. There is absolutely no sign of rust on the entire rifle. The last 2 mag in the rifle were shot very fast, in an attempt to shoot off the corrosionX. I enjoy cleaning these rifles and loading magazines |

I usually only clean my AK when I clean the others. If I shoot it by itself, no chance. Never shot corrosive 7.62x39, so I am not too worried. My SAR2 with milsurp gets the OCD treatment immediately after shooting––windex, hot water, wipe it all down, reinspect, repeat...

With my AK's I usually get around to cleaning within a week or so of shooting them. If it's corrosive ammo then I clean it within a day or so. No rush, but I try not to neglect them either.

I clean them right after I shoot them. No matter what type of ammo I shoot. I have this irrational fear that my Drill Instructor will come through the door and make me do mountain climbers if I don't have my weapon clean.
I felt bad for not cleaning my AK after the last shoot after reading this thead, so I just cleaned her good.
Scrubbed her with a toothbrush in a mud puddle, soaked a bootlace with oil and ran it through the barrel a few times, rinsed it off in the creek and lubed her up with engine grease. |

Back when ammo was $71.00 for 1K I could afford to shoot them so much I had to clean more often.
Have had a number of AK stop working because they were so dirty, some may find it hard to beleive this but AK if they get two dirty will start to act up a little. |
I clean mine.
Anything worth having is worth taking care of. |
