Ok guys, I know nothing about anything pretty much on how to build an AK but I'm thinking I want to build an underfolder Yugo!!! What special tools do I need? What kind of receiver should I get for an underfolder (i was thinking of a pre built receiver so that its not so hard, and with everything already drilled if it can be already drilled)? Any links would be apreciated! I checked the ones in the top of the page and they weren't much help. I see so many receivers and part kits for sale that I feel so bad when I see them for sale so cheap, I need to try it out... I'm worried about the rivets. They look like the hardest part to install.. I just need instructions pretty much to build something! Thank You in advance! |

all the builders hang out mostly on gunsnet.net and gunco.net, good threads there lots of builders here too...socandyman, real_estate_salesman, longboat, etc there is a group buy for rivets in gunsnet.net with 1patriot-somethingorother there is no substitute for the right rivets you need the different sizes for the trigger guard and swell neck rivets for some of the front trunnion good jigs like plinker762 are good for the rivets and xebecs jig for barrel removal it will take time and alot of research with the WECSOG guys to get it done, but it's pretty simple after you get the idea. Maybe you should get together with a local build group the simple solution is to spend $150 for jnewt to put it together for you and you just finish it |

I say get the kit, then wait for Harlan from Federal Arms Corperation (FAC) , or someone else, to introduce a receiver for the Yugo. Just don't mess with the kit, that way if you change your mind you can sell it, maybe even at a profit to someone who missed the yugo deals. You'll have the kit while you think about what you want to do. On the other hand, a Romanian kit is something you can build right now.

WOOT i made the list  you dont want a yugo thats not gonna be a beginners ak you want an amd or a rom for a first build and an ffl req receiver oow for amd any predrilled for romak the reason i say romak or amd is they are cheap easy to get and fairly easy to build dont worry tho if you build 1 you will build more its addictive like crack i got a wild hair and built 2 amd's lastnight ill post pics later |

Thanks for all the answers guys :) Now, Options... 1- Buy the Kit and keep it until somebody offers a receiver. 2- Buy a romy kit and build it now. I'm thinking of getting the yugo kit and getting it built once receivers enter the market since I dont think there will be many of those kits around for long! Plus, If i decide not to build It like you said I can just sell it off which is great. For now I need to get as much info as posible on how to build. Things i know that are going to be hard are the rivets and mabye the painting of the rifle (which i dont think is going to be as hard compared to the rivets). First i should strip the rifle of all the finish that it has and paint it with duracoat or some other material and then assemble the rifle right? What is sandblast by the way, some how to get the paint out? And I would apreciate as much info on the rivets as posible. I will buy the part kit in two weeks and keep it in the closet for now while I inject info into my brain  I will take my time to build this since there is no rush. Plus i'm also saving $ for an AR.

I think the yugo should be easy, one they make the receiver for it. Cold Steel Solutions allready has a pre-bent blank that should work, if you're good with a dremal that shouldn't be to hard. The under folding stock will be a bit more work on any weapon, yugo or not (I havn't done one yet though) As for the finish, all I did on my first builds was put'em together, then clean'em with brake cleaner (from auto parts store) (takes about two or three cans to get it REAL clean) then I sprayed the whole thing with high-temp BBQ paint, I don't see why you'd need to strip the old finish off. On my most recent build I had used an old beat up AMD65 kit that I had been saving in case I needed to use parts from it, it had like 0% of the finish left on it, it had deffinantly seen hard use. The more I looked at it the more I thought it looked kinda cool that way, like it had some storys to tell, so I just painted the receiver and left everything else alone, I made a pistol out of it, I like that "patena" look. It's a matter of wether you want it to look brand new or want it to look like the peace of history that it is.

You should just get the romy kit and the yugo (for later). Buy an OOW receiver for $65.00 and some rivets. Show up at a florida AK build part. Have someone help you build it. |
HeHe, I dont know any florida build places :(. I'm located in Fort Lauderdale... I posted a post in the Hometown/Florida section in this website so that I can find one. I would love to get some help on the first build. It would be like that first push when you are learning to ride a bike...

I posted a few times (on a couple of boards) about getting a group build going. But (I guess) between the lack of kits available and people not reading the boards as often, there wasn't a big response to it. Maybe I'll try again soon. Right after the romy kits are out for a few weeks. |

I would buy the romanian, it is cheap and takes regular receivers and has a chrome barrel Tantals are rare though, only about a 1000 actual complete rifles were ever imported, no wait that is the Yugo underfolder, damn there are so many I can't keep them straight, TEMPLAR!! The kits aren't a rare thing, but finding them in stock sometimes is. People tend to buy them, and put them away for later. So if you see some kits in stock somewhere that you were thinking about getting, do it now. It depends on what you're looking for. Do you like the way the gun looks? I myself didn't find the tantals appealing. I bought 3 AK74's from Akron Armory (The same place that has the tantals) and am very happy with the high quality. I would ask Bob if the tantals are in the same league as the AK74's. After you build the tantals on a "normal" AK74 receiver, they won't be that different from an AK74 (except for the folding stock). $250.00 isn't "too much" to ask for the kits since they are kind of rare, and if they are in good shape, it probably is a great deal. The AMD's are just about out of stock right now (the new ones anyway!) but a new shipment might be coming in soon. |

wow this thread is a great help. socandyman perhaps sometime we might be able to meet up? this sounds like it would be great fun.. and i promese i wont do a AR stock kit.. i dident realize that was a sin.. but hey look on the bright side at least i dident say i wanted a surefire light, and mount a hibbin knife as a bayo :-P well i know where my next coupple of bills is going... that is the going price that i have seen recently for the amd65 kit...i paid 170 for my amd63 kit in february and see people list them for up to 250 now... i prefer the 63 kit since it is long enough that you dont need the extra stuff like the 65 kit builds... i got the 63 kit and a 74 kit that i have to build...cant wait to do it. having someone like longboat around is definetly a big help, also bulldog is planning on a couple home builds, i might see if i can get in on that...sounds like mucho fun. |
