A couple of years ago I bought a few Armory USA 100% receivers and am just now getting around to try and assemble a kit. The front and rear trunnions are already in place and the barrel installed. Head space checked fine. While trial fitting the magazine in preparation for installing the trigger guard it became obvious that the center support was slightly mislocated too far forward and was preventing the magazine from coming up far enough to be properly located. The upper rear edge of the magazine is hitting on the center support stopping it from rotating up far enough. Is there anything wrong with trying to thin the center support on one side in order to get the magazine to lock into place? Just how much stress is on the center support during operation of the weapon anyway? Thanks |
| Not knowing exactly what they used for center supports it is hard to say but you should be fine to do some thinning without problems. It really depends on how much. And you're positive it is the center support and not the mag stabilizers (usually below the lower rails)? I'm sure not everyone is as blind as I am, but in case some are nearly as blind as I am I would check to make sure before chopping away as something with a Dremel. Another option would be to modify the mag or both depending on how much they are coming in contact with each other. For my own personal builds I use roll pins and surplus rivets (I buy them in bulk). The roll pins are thicker than the center support pins I had gotten in the past and that means it is stronger. Apart from holding the center of the receiver the width it should be for function it also serves as a hammer stop when the bolt is not there. Just as I have seen mag catches get broken on ARs when dry firing I'm sure it could damage the center support if you have it chopped nearly in half to fix this problem. I hope this helps you decide what you want to do, if not give us more details or better yet pictures. Good luck and enjoy the addiction. |

have ya tried locking in other mags to see if it does the same thing..if you are sure it is the center support, then notch it to where the mag(s) won't hit it.the center support keeps the sides parallel/from crushing etc.the front and rear is where the forces are applied while operating. |
| Some countries used a Center Support with a larger diameter, and a Flat side ground into it for mag clearance... Some here copied that. If yours has a flat side, try to Turn it to the proper position, if not, get the Dremel out and remove that's needed to fit... |
