Want to sent my Romy G build up a little more serious.

Wanting to add a folding stock and I am debating between the Bone Steel and an ACE. I want the most compact folder I can get while still being somewhat comfortable to shoot. I would like to stay with Warsaw length.

What are the differences guys?

Bonesteel:  Keep the tang

ACE:  Cut the tang

I think I want to keep the tang so I can go back to my Kvar stock. It is just an NDS build though.

What are the benefits of cutting the tang off? I would like to make it as compact as possible because I want to keep this is the car web I go out of town.

I have the CNC Warrior/Bonesteel folder on a .308 Saiga and like it a lot.  Very solid and well made, definitely a quality piece.

No experience with the Ace.

Very helpful info, thanks!

Should I go right folding or left folding?

I have a bonesteel.  I like it.
If you run a optics rail on the left side your left side folder does not work that great.
4/4/2014 9:39:42 AM EDT
[#7]
Thinking I will be running an ultimak or MI rail as my AK has no side mount installed

In that case I'd go with left side folding. In the event that you would want to shoot with the stock folded - I'm not 100% sure that you'd have clearance for the charging handle to cycle with a stock folded on the right side. I'm sure someone knows the answer though, I'm curious myself.

I don't recommend the ACE pushbutton side folder.

Think 9 times before cutting the tab off the back.

I will reiterate: Do not cut the tang off the back.  I had a bad experience with their customer service and a poorly designed push-button stock they discontinued.

You don't cut the tang off when you use a Romy side folder.

I don't care for the ACE, but I fired a friend's Vepr 12 with a Bonesteel and found myself looking at the back of the receiver cover when in a comfortable shooting position. If you shoot head down you may not like the comb height of the Bonesteel. It is much lower than a WARSAW stock. Also, note in all of those pictures that the weapon with the Bonesteel is staged forward to make the hinge of it appear shorter than it really is. I have seen those pics before and it seemed dishonest. Maybe I am reading to far into it and it was purely coincidental that every single pic was like that

its not like its a totally permanent modification, you can always have a new rear trunnion installed.

I have had both ACE and Bonesteel. The lockup on the ACE was not  as tight as the Bonesteel and there was  some wiggle in the hinge  when extended. I would get the version using an M4 stock due to the wider selection of available stocks. I currently use an MFT  Minimalist Battlelink on mine and like it a lot.

I had the ACE about 2 years ago. I dont know if there is a more recent design. My Bonesteel is about a year old. I know the newer Bonesteel/CNC telestock tubes have a hollow cavity for storage but I am not aware of any other changes. I also had the Bonesteel Galil type stock but prefer a Telestock version.

Pretty much why I went with the M4 collapsible version, huge variety of stocks to choose from and the adjustable LOP.  I use a MOE stock with a 3/4" riser for my scope, works great.

I went with a Bonesteel milled on my SLR95 remakeover:  kept the rear tang and looks great.  I did trim the lower tang, but I had added that  on the first stock install.

Can you post a picture of your stock setup? I am thinking of doing the same combo. Btw can you still fire from the folded position with the mft?

Thanks, fs

Never used Bone Steel so I can't provide any information on that stock.

However, I have used and still use the ACE folder (not push-button) without any
problems.  Lockup is excellent, and, I can switch from left to right folder if I desire.

I don't use the scope rail as I have the ACE AKSMS (Ak Scope Mount Small) which
I installed an Aimpoint on (not shown in picture).  So I use the stock in the left side folded position.

Here is a pic on a converted Saiga.  This combination works well for me. You cant really fire with a folded stock unless you leave the safety off and fire with your Left hand.

IMO all those after market side folders are fugly.

I prefer real romanian side folder myself.  Very low profile and it's completely unbreakable. Plus it won't interfere with the optics rail.

I like the side folder Bonesteel folders, I prefer folding to the right because they don't interfere with the scope rail OR the action

I also have a converted Saiga-12 with an ACE side folder that I like, but I prefer the bonesteel better, also for the fact that you don't remove the Tang, and I've had issues with the ACE coming loose, however it wasn't something Loctite and elbow grease didn't fix

Have a few ACE hinges maybe 4 of them. They work fine. Cut the tang on all the rifles. Don't own the Bonesteel but they look nice. IMO BoneSteel is too bulky. Cut the tang with an ACE hinge looks cleaner but still too big. Why no one has made a steel hinge in a reasonable size is beyond me. Hint

a cleaner solution would be build a hinge mechanism directly to the rear.  For example, ACE sells an internal receiver block.

Why have a hinge mechanism built into it?

I think Galil/FNFAL para style tubular stock is actually more comfortable than an original rommy/E. German side-folder.

The Hinge would still bolt to an internal rec block. Making the hinge out of steel would allow the hinge itself to be considerably smaller and lower profile. The hinge itself wouldn't protrude as much, and, IMO, look less like an add on part -- my only dig against the ACE hinge.

Doesn't Bonestreel protrude more since it keeps the tang?

Not sure what you mean by protrude; they both fit flush, it's really just a question of how they are affixed.

That said, I'll post pics, but won't be able to do so until tomorrow.

The only ACE folder I have had that was not a wobblie POS was for a FAL. All the AR folders were nice and tight as first but developed some slop at the hinge pin within the first outing.

The Bonesteel on my Vepr 308 is still solid after a year and 500rds.
