Quoted: I say it is about time to start chipping away at the 89 import ban, and the 86 mg ban. Those two thorns would probably be the easiest to get struck down. I am ready to throw in and help out.

H.R. 1703 is a beautiful bill and idea, but it would only prevail as an amendment or clause because it cannot stand alone "as is" because of the nature of its stipulations. Anti-gun folks just wouldn't allow it
The only way to really get things done is to get "W" to axe that '89 EO that his daddy put into effect. That would open the doors to all the things we really appreciate in this hobby. I really wouldn't bother with the '86 mg ban right now... That will be one tough sumbitch to defeat. Let's do one thing at a time.
On the more realistic side... eliminating the '89 EO or passing (or attaching) H.R. 1703 is something that I can see happening. It seems like a long shot, but I am hoping that the NRA will tackle it next after S.397 is Platinum !
I think lack of communication and plain and simple gun-law ignorance is what seperates gun boards and their members on these issues. I think all gun boards should have permanent stickies and tacks at the top of EVERY forum explaining what is going on in the "House" and who to contact to make a difference.
Arfcom is a HUGE gun community, but you don't see these things tacked for very long. I say keep them tacked and updated 'till they ( the bans ) go away. I said it in the past and I'll say it again... I think it is irresonsible for any / all gun boards to not take an active stance to fix the warped laws.
There are still people on arfcom that believe it is illegal to own a Machine gun, WTF ! The internet is supposed to me the link of knowledge, yet most of us are "pro-my gun and my issues" and not "pro-gun legislation" ! Everyone does know that the AWB was going to expire and that it had nothing to do with republicans or GWB right ? It would still be in effect if it weren't for the built in 10 year thing.
Let's get this information together and get it tacked, stapled, hammered to the top of every single forum on arfcom. People need to know what they can do to make a difference. The squeeky wheels get the grease. These special interest groups and "anti's" make a lot of noise. Surely with all of our guns we can be louder
What say ye
ETA: EVERY forum on arfcom has a PICTURES thread tacked, for eternity, yet no one sees it necessary to tack something that can actually make a difference ?
This gives me the impression that showing off pictures is more important than fighting for our God given, constitutional rights, am I wrong ? Has vanity taken the place of the 2nd amendment ?
