Hello i have been a member of the forum for a while now and i have built a few ar-15's and decided that i rerally wanted to get into the AK i went to my local gun store and purchased a Mak 90 "sporter" it is a beautiful rifle BUT, when you pull back the charging handle the bolt will not hold open. You can feel a little resistance like it might be trying but slams shut no matter what. What do i need to do to repair this problem and what part controls this function? You guys are really great and i really really appreciate any help you can provide.

Thanks Again.

not familiar with that exact model, but most AK clones don't have a bolt hold open feature... (you can get some SAR-1's to do it by dropping the hammer when the bolts back.)

Mine stays open 95% of the time but sometimes I have to pull the charging handle back and then wiggle it to stay open.

Well what makes me ask is that at the rifle range i go to before you can go down range the bolt of your weapon must be open before anyone can go down. So i was worried im not going to be able to take it to the range...

There is no BHO on it.  Most people get another safety lever and cut a notch in it to hold the bolt back.  If your range is that tight on the rules just pull the whole bolt out.  Its noth that hard.

Most ranges will let you use a chamber flag on bolts that don't lock open. You can also use an empty shell caseing placed in the chamber side ways to hold the bolt open on most ranges as a chamber flag.

sometimes mine stays open if I pull back on the handle slowly....probably b/c it's new and hasn't been completely broken in yet.

My Vector will stay back if I bring the CH forward slowly.  I've only put 100 rounds through it though.  I've heard that Yugo mags have a BHO feature so you should check those out if it means that much to you.

AK's don't have BHO, but Yugo mags have a BHO follower

Most ranges require you to remove the magazine when going down range.

just use an empty shell casing

As stated, AK's do not have a Bolt Hold Open feature. However, some will hold open from the friction of the hammer riding under the bolt and carrier. It's not actually designed that way, but it does happen.
