Like I have said in the past... I am new to the AK world so I want to figure out why
a sweet gun like the Tigr is no longer imported. It is sporting and not many will
likely modify it when it gets stateside, besides the magwell...

So is there a definitive answer as to why no one imports Tigrs ?
We have Romaks.... so my no pretty little Russian tigers

Also, here are some nice links to the .ru Saigas and Tigrs.

Enjoy.

IZHMASH page : Saigas with list of calibers.

IZHMASH page : Tigrs in all their sweetness.

Those are basically a Dragnuv right? Not a offshoot like a Romak...

Good question! I thought it was because of arms embargo's with Russia, thats how those Russian AK kits came in awhile back, they were out of Russia( PLO capture) for a certain period of time before coming here. But then again if we can import Saiga's then why cant we get these...

The pic is off the link provided, wouldnt it be in the same class as a saiga?

I would love them to import a 308 version

The AWB had no affects on the importation on Tigr Dragunovs. Russia is only allowed to import
a small list of rifles that they manufacture. If it's not on the list, it can't be imported.

Its not covered by the US-Russian Arms agreement. Being importable or not had nothing to do with it.

The PLO kits made it in because they came via Israel, where they had been for more then 5 years. If an item is in a country for more then 5 years, it is legally considered to originate from that country by the ATF.

Also, the ATF doesnt seem to like the SVD anyway, regardless of where it comes from. I know several major importers have tried to import them from places such as Canada, Israel, Bulgaria and Germany, and all have been denied by the ATF; Even though the guns were Russian (only ones to make them besides the Chinese), they were legally considered from the 3rd country.

On what grounds were they denied importation then?

Just the ATFs deal I guess.

The SVD does use a trigger set up with a safety sear, similar to an auto AK. That might of had something to do with it.

So? Just etch "VEPR" onto the receiver and importation is good to go.

It sure would be nice... But I am curious to see how accurate the .308's are with a 20" barrel

I'd guess they just use standard weight barrels.. still it will be interesting to see how those work out.

Time will tell I suppose.

ETA : Thanks to everyone that took time to answer my question. I have learned a few new things today in the world of AK, thanks

I've looked at the Izhmash site dozens of times and I just noticed that they have Saigs in 9.3x53r and Tigrs in 9.3x64. Those would be nice toys.

Ok, I've looked at the site, and this is apparently a Siaga. Import them. Now. I want 50 of them.

Wouldn't you?

There's got to be a way if an importer wanted to that they could bring the the Tigrs. Seems to me if they just put a new name on it and slap the words 'hunting' and 'sporting' all over the place they could get them importable. They sure seem a lot less 'threatening' than a Vepr.

I wish they would import them with the Mag well dimple ...

Arent there some pre import ban Tigrs out there? If it had to do with being select fire then wouldnt those be banned too? Seems like some sort of import issue.

No you better thank your boy George Bush. No, not the Dubya, but his "deddy" Geroge senior. Its not the democrats that dont like guns. Its the government in all. They are gonna try to get rid of anything that stops them from doing "anything they want."

Edited to make sense
