Quoted: UPS dropped mine off yesterday. I got a chance to check them out today. They showed up wrapped in bubble wrap and cardboard boxes. No paperwork or instructions. There is a grub screw on the bottom of the tang that fits into the receiver. I'm assuming thats so you can adjust and take out any vertical slop that tang has in the receiver. I didn't notice any other adjustment points. There are chamfered holes for the 4 screws that mount the upper half to the lower half. There are 4 more chamfered holes sitting behind those, which look like they'd be for mounting a hinged top cover or some other optics mount. On the PSAK-105, it installed just like I imagined. I needed a little mallet and a block of wood to pound the thing into the front of my receiver. Once its in there, its tight and there's no play. On my WBP mini jack, however, the thing is a lot looser. There was no pounding necessary. It just slid right into the receiver and even with the front handguard retainer locked into place, there is a fair amount of vertical wobble to the thing. Not sure if its operator error to blame for it. https://iili.io/PRUfus.png https://iili.io/PRUK9n.png https://iili.io/PRUBtf.png https://iili.io/PRUqwG.png https://iili.io/PRSVjf.gif It is good to know they are “press fit” into the PSA rifles. How do you feel about it on the PSA? Smug enough to be able to mount lasers and optics to it? |

Thats a huge shame. I would have rather seen flathead screws as well, to match the original, but the provided screws make a lot of sense. Wish mine would arrive... |

I hope they make them for non-PSA AK’s where it’s also a press fit for those, maybe the WBP is just dimensionally thicker Hopefully we see some more results this week, would like to see these even on WASR’s |

Make two dimensions if you want one for the PSA enthusiasts only, but don’t make them a loose fit in other makes. There is a reason Zenitco rails were a pain in the ass to install. |

Quoted: The recess is called the "plumbus". PSA added too much "schleem" to this unit to fit the B33. If you want to learn more about how a plumbus is made, simply go to youtube and type the term in. I don't have enough time to describe the process here. https://iili.io/Psjn4I.jpg Some initial thoughts as I will test it out on a few PSA rifles this weekend: 1. The stability of the system relies on a set screw? Its awkwardly placed, maybe i'm missing something obvious. 2. The unit comes with screws that are dissimilar to those of the original (see picture below). 3. The unit has a weird skeletonized upper in a triangle pattern similar to PSA's side rail mount. This should be changed in the next version. 4. The unit looks much better than the KUSA offering. 5. I initially tried to fit this to a PSA104, but it was a tad too long for me to be comfortable shutting the handguard retainer lever. I have two more PSA units on hand that I will test this weekend. Wish I had time to do it today, but I have to take care of some life stuff. @2Keylows : How are you tightening the set screw down? Its in a really awkward place. https://iili.io/PsjJYF.jpg @BlgSal Appreciate the explanation. I'm actually not using the set screw, it blocks the cleaning rod pathway. Seems like you preset the set screw prior to installing and massage it into place like Zenitco's install. There was enough tension with the handguard retainer that the handguard "feels" secure. A couple whacks with a small mallet/dowel helped close the retainer lever. I'll know more once I put rounds on it and check to see if there is a wondering zero. I'm not entirely convinced the front handguard retainer is enough to maintain rigidity over time. I do wish PSA mimicked Zenitco's slightly oversized press fit install. |

Let’s hope they go with a tension fit for the next generation. I’ll test this weekend to see if it can hold zero with a laser. Fingers crossed. By the way: badass photos! |

Quoted: 2Keylows and Sal, thanks for the photos and comments ![]() The ones I ordered came in but haven't had time to mess around with them yet. Sounds like these will not just be drop in like I was hoping either but I guess I'll see how it goes when I get to installing I ended up using mine with 2Keylows method of ditching the set screw. I'll post some more photos shortly. |

Quoted: Mine went in smoothly on my PSA 103 and didn't need any fiddling with the set screws, so that was a plus. It seems to be super tight with just the HG retainer in place. I'm not sure what the screw is needed for but I haven't tried any other AKs yet My Russian B33 doesn't fit at all, which is a serious bummer for me These PSAs are nicely made (even if the B19 upper is pretty fugly) but if I can't use a topcover with it I have no use for these HGs at all Cleaning rod doesn't fit either https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/73202/20220922_114756-2535272.jpg Oddly this makes me happy, I don’t have a top cover but plan on getting the Soviet Arms version once available |

What's the overall consensus on these? Worth picking up or should I wait till they hit the EE? If they're light weight and stable enough to support a micro reflex sight Id consider getting a set to replace the venerable ultimak. I'm still hoping PSA is bringing a decent zenit-clone B-33 topcover to market to solve my optic mounting woes. |

Quoted: @Jman_JJE Is the weight listing correct on the DeltaTec FH clones? 1lb? https://i.imgur.com/eoDCWoP.jpg I am checking on the weight for you. Is this the one you are referring to? Soviet Arms Thank you, Josiah |

Quoted: Been a bit so bumping for updates. How are these working out for those you've installed them? Also, anyone had a chance to compare the SA-19 & SA-10u with the Eastern Bloc K-21 from Kalashnikov USA? If you want to try one out before buying, let me know and I can send you the set I have. They work ok, but I have the Russian model with the railed dustcover and the PSA units do not match up to the B-33 railed dustcover. |
|
Quoted: Yeah I can't imagine they would. Still, the PSA or KUSA set coupled with a Texas dust cover would get us poors about 95% there as far as look. And maybe 50% there in performance? I have no experience with the TWS rail. I lost interest when they did away with the middle notch sight and started using a weird Diopter sight. Ruins the whole aesthetic frankly, and its slower for me to use. PSA also uses the diopter sight, but have a notch sight on their AKP and AKV rails (maybe JJMAN will read this and realize they should do away with the diopter unit, but who knows). |
