No, this was a SLS test sample. The real deal will be available in black, FDE and a Bakelite color... or so we are told. Looks VERY promising. No details are available.

stereolithography part I am guessing. Still proving and testing the design. why pay for a mold unless you know the design is correct to begin with.

Stainless steel overmolded cage for the locking portions, its a wrap around design that's about 2.5" tall and is molded inside/covered by the upper walls. Or so I am told |

If this isn't better/different than circle 10 mags, or significantly cheaper, so what?

If this isn't better/different than circle 10 mags, or significantly cheaper, so what? Well if it's as reliable and robust as a bulgy circle 10 it's better. It'll count as 3 us made parts. It can't be banned from import by some dip shit's executive order. |

Make it in .223 and I will try a couple just to support the USofA. |

I hope this will answer a few of your questions, I've just been cleared to announce the details.
The maker of the magazine is US PALM. See the press release here. Here is the press release for the US Palm AK30 Magazine. October 5, 2009 (Scottsdale, AZ) – US Primary Armament & Logistical Manufacturing (US PALM) is proud to announce the introduction of our first product, the AK30 Magazine. The AK30 is 100% made in the USA. This new 30 round magazine fits all AK-47 rifles that use a detachable double-stack magazine. The AK30 is constructed of proprietary aerospace polymers from TangoDown, and its unique features and purpose-built design set itself apart from other polymer magazines. We eliminated the removable floor plate so the magazine became a five-sided box. This unique design helped increase the strength and durability of the AK30, and utilizing the latest polymers makes this one of the most durable magazines on the planet. After molding, we permanently bond the body and end-cap together with molecular level adhesives, so no disassembly is possible or required. The AK30 has a unique low-friction semi-floating follower that is slotted to allow for easy cleaning and hassle-free maintenance. To clean it, dunk the magazine in hot soapy water, rinse, and invert to drain. The AK30 features a premium chromium-silicon spring that is heat treated, stress relieved and moly-coated and is rated for 100,000+ cycles. The AK30 is more than just a pretty face. This magazine was designed with a purpose. A stainless steel cage is molded into the top of the magazine to reinforce the feed lips and locking surfaces. The aggressive ridges on the front and rear allow a positive purchase when seating the AK30 into a rifle. The deep waffle pattern on the magazine's sides assist in rapid extraction from mag pouches. Every surface of the AK30 was given careful consideration to benefit the operator working in the world's harshest conditions. We took input from numerous industry professionals: real world operators, military and police active duty personnel, firearms instructors, manufacturing experts, and polymer industry chemists. We asked questions and when they spoke – we listened. We did our research to ensure the AK30 would be successful from day one. The AK30 will be available by the end of this month in Black, FDE, and Bakelite colors for $29.95. For developments on this and other products visit http://us-palm.com/ Greg ~SGCUSA ETA: This thread should probably continue over to New AK Products |

Any plans for other calibers?
Any plans on making a "K-VAR drop test, take II?" |

Any plans for other calibers? Any plans on making a "K-VAR drop test, take II?" Sure! We need to find a donor AK to trash, but we're game. FWIW, we will be posting a series of field tests once we "officially" launch the product later this month. As a fair warning, sadly we WILL NOT have any of those cool sound effects. Rob US PALM |

Any idea what color the bakelites are going to be?
Orange, Red, orangeish red? |
|
We're aiming for a brownish red with a hint of orange.
Should have some preliminary test videos up in a day or so. Nothing Earth shattering, just function test. The Festivus level Feats of Strength testing will commence as soon as I can clear a few calendar days off in a row and put together a meaningful system of documentation. I haven't done push-ups in years so that should be fun! Rob US PALM |

Oooooh!
Finally bakelite colored mags that don't cost a fortune! Don't know why, but I love the look. |
|
Just to set things straight, these obviously aren't actual bakelite, correct? Seeing as how bakelite construction requires asbestos, i would hope not.
they are in fact just standard polymer magazines that are going to be colored to resemble bakelite? |

Just one question... got 'em in 5.45? Not at this time. We are focused on military demand/usage. Quoted:

Strictly 100% polymer less the metal insert and spring. But the upside for you old skewl guys is they DO taste like asbestos when you lick them. |

Will there be MIL/LE pricing on these? Absolutely. We will have dealer, LEO and .mil/.gov pricing made available upon roll out of the live product. |

I'll pick up a few of the bakelite-wannabe version when they become available. Don't need more mags, but I'm a bit of a mag whore and they would be too cool to pass up.
|
|
Gonna have a Arfcom discount? Post up in team if you will. As others have mentioned, I don't need more mags, but these are VERY tempting. I'm a sucker for Circle10 mags and these may be nice fix for that addiction.
