I went to zero a new scope.
shooting an ar22 using eley outlaw.
I am an idiot because I set the zero stop and left the tools at home. Thought I packed them, but didn't have anything when I got there.

Since I set the zero wrong, I was able to hit poa at 25 yards.
Went to see what it would do at 50 yards and it was hitting about an inch high or so.
what did I do wrong?
Was it me? I was able to group fine at 25 yards.
all the ballistic apps say it should be half an inch or more lower.

If you zero at 25 it will hit high at 50. Then it will come back down.

A common zero is the 50/200 for 223. It is low to 50, high from 50-200, then low past 200.

Same principle applies to rimfire.

If I remember correctly, the common 0 for .22 LR is 25/75.

hmm, then the ballistic app I tried doesn't work for rim fire, or that close. Have to experiment with the numbers I guess.

Ballistic rounds follow ballistic curves. They are not laser beams.

Yes. Even w .22lr a 25 yard zero will be high at 50 and back on again around 75 with AR height sights. Did you put your sight height above center bore into the calculator?

An inch high at 50 does not hurt a thing.  You will be on point of aim at 75 or so.

yes, I entered what the scope mount said the height was. 1.43 I think.

I guess I have never sighted in a rifle that close in before. I realize for like 223 to expect the arc and I even remember reading a hunting thing about bracketing zero so you are good out to x yards if you zero at y yards.

I just was expecting it to keep going down for some reason.

Thanks all.

Ah, didn't realize that.
yes that totally changes the chart.
high point is actually at 40 yards. but it makes the 50 yard high that I don't see using 1.43 for sight height and using 2.5 instead.

Thanks a lot. There seems to be a lot more to the ballistic calcs for input than I understand.

When I zero at 25 I'm .1m high at 50. I shoot subsonic. They should be near same zero
