Need an optic for my new Ceratac AR10 build.  1:10, 18".  I'd like to nail coconuts at 500yds.  Which is going to be the better buy? and more importantly why?   Is there other glass for the job in this price range that would be better?  I don't mind the irresistible and inevitable "for a little more"...but a few bucks...not $200 extra.

Thanks!

Isn’t Nikon getting out of the scope business? I’d get the Vortex based on warranty/customer service.

Yes, but I read they are going to work on their scopes.  I'm just looking at quality, features, and capability.  But yes, customer service is also important.  Had to have my VX-II replaced years after I bought it because it would no longer properly zero.

EDIT: I also reached out to Nikon to ask them directly and am awaiting their response.

As mentioned in the title, I'd like to stay under $500.

I have a 4-12x40 MilDot reticle Matte finish Pro Staff I'd sell for $200. That includes QD mounts and rings. Was previously on an AR10 308 for a couple of years. I sold the rifle because I rarely ever shot the gun. Scope looks lnib. Let me know if you're interested.

I bought a Nikon FX1000 4-16x50 for my CZ 457 from a close-out at Europtic at an amazing price of $359.95, $402.31 with tax and shipping. That is an amazing price.

Back in Febuary I had an older Japanese made Nikon Monarch Tactical 2.5-10x44 that had a windage turret that was just a bit stiffer than the elevation so I sent it in for repair.

I bought it used here on the EE for $200, I had no receipt and no idea where or when it was bought, I was fully expecting to pay for the repairs. Nikon replied back that it was not economically feasible to repair and gave me a $1,385.00 voucher to use on their Sport Optic site.
So, they are indeed still honoring their Lifetime Warranty.

Later to replace the 2.5-10x44 I was looking at the Vortex 2-10x32 or the Nightforce SHV 3-10x42, both right at $900.
Shooting the CZ 457 again I realized it was foolish not to buy another Nikon FX1000 with Illuminated Reticle for $489.95 rather than spend another $300 on the other two.

It is a hell a good scope.

Wow!! Now they say scopes with electronic components are NOT covered for lifetime...so was your Monarch non-illuminated?

EDIT:  Is Sport Optic Nikon's site?  If so, what happens when they no longer sell Nikon scopes?  But if it's not Nikon's site and they are giving you that to spend on a competitor....that's pretty amazing!
