So I used to compete in college, left college got married and sold all of my equipment (like an idiot). Fast forward too many years and my son wants to get into competitive shooting. I have been checking gunbroker, gunsamerica, targettalk accurate shooter, rimfirecentral and the EE here. Is there anywhere else I should be looking?

I *think* the CMP has offered used in the past, but am not completely certain.

Is he just learning at first? Are you part of a CMP affiliated club? How old is your son?
CMP offers a Savage .22 target rifle to learn on. It can be ordered single shot. The stock is adult sized but can be cut down and a cheek rest added if needed. Its a cheap alternative to learn the basics on. https://thecmp.org/sales-and-service/22-target-commercial/ You can technically also order this through any gun dealer however its closer to $500 if I recall. |

So you are saying God hates these endangered ducks?
No, I am just saying that if God liked ducks they wouldn't be endangered. |

If he wants to do .22 rimfire bench IM me....I have Bob Barnharts championship rifle that I would consider selling...However it's bench only

View Quote So my son is 12 and in 7th grade and for the last two years has been taking part in his schools marksmanship program using air rifles. Unfortunately it is all that is offered for youth near us so after next year there won't be any shooting activities within an hour of us. I have a teammate that is going to sell me her air rifle but that is dependent on her brother bringing it up to Alask but with current events that doesnt look like its gonna happen. |

there are a handful of folks that sell older used match rifles, but I cannot for the life of my remember the names, most advertised in Precision Shooting magazine when they were publishing, also reach out to Champion's Choice, and maybe Creedmore sports, they may have a line of some resellers, Champions Shooter's Supply has supposedly closed up, of course, if you have time and the Beerflu is not kilt us all, there is always Commercial row during Smallbore week at Perry |

For 3 position do not overlook older Remington 40x or 513, or Winchester model 75/52 type rifles. For 3p more than adequate usually found pretty inexpensive (for the 513 and 75 anyway) or even English martini action rifles. There is a gun shop in Maryland that advertises imported martini rifles frequently on gun broker. I used an older Remington in college and shot well enough with it to try out for the Olympic team way back then.

You might try the Rimfire Central classifieds. I just looked briefly, and there were a couple of older 3 position target rifles.

You need a good airgun if you don't have one already. |

Since he is 12 I would get him this as a starter gun. I had one for my kids and it has a decent trigger and is accurate.
https://www.gunbroker.com/item/863759145 Also consider a good used Walther rifle, they shoot every bit as good as the Anschutz. ETA: Check Duffy's Guns he imports from Europe. |

Maybe not exactly what you want but I'm ordering one for the Wife to shoot NRL .22 matches with. |

The hooked butts come up for sale on eBay and gunbroker now and again but I never bought one. Without it I have never shot it being incomplete. My shoulder has been jacked up anyway. I have a 40x to shoot anyhow. Edit, mine is a super 54 with the winged safety, hard for me to see but that one might be a year or two newer without the winged safety. |
