Wondering what factory options there are for an AR10 in 308 or 6.5 Creedmoor that have the option of a carbon fiber barrel? Doesn’t seem to be too many options on the market, maybe I just need to settle with a steel barrel? Carbon fiber for the lighter weights and better heat dissipation sounds great but I don’t know if it’s worth it in the real world?

I’m also waffling between the availability and cheaper cost of 308 versus the accuracy of 6.5 Creedmoor. I typically don’t shoot farther than 300 yards regularly, so maybe .308 is the way to go?

Christensen Arms does, but their quality control is extremely hit or miss.

Why not just get a Proof Research PR10 barrel and assemble your own rifle around it and not settle?

I don't know much about the Carbon fiber barrels. The 308 vs 6.5 question I can help with. When comparing accuracy the first thing is define how far you plan on shooting both can be extremely accurate and at 6oo yards or less the difference is only a few min of elevation. Where the 6.5 CM shines is past 600 all the way to 1200 maybe even farther for some. But 1250 it the farthest I have hit with it. It is about $6 more a box than comparable 308. It use to be within $2 a box but demand is pushing up the price. The 308 can be shot for several thousand rounds but the 6.5 life is limited, hot loads can burn out the barrel. I haven't burned up one yet but mine only has 1200 rounds thru it. You can find 308 almost every where but 6.5CM is a little harder to find in rural areas. I have 2 bolt guns and a Savage MSR10 in 6.5. I like all of them. Now I am looking at a 224 Valkyrie where I can just replace the upper and shoot an AR15 out to 1000+

Thank you, right now I’m shooting a DPMS G2 recon 16” 308, updated with the geissele trigger, rail, suppressor, etc. I’ve been having fun banging steel out to 300 yards, i’ll have to reach out farther and see what it can do at longer distances

save your money.  bought a Proof .223 barrel. it shot ok and was lighter but not worth the price tag.

The pros want the weight of the barrel and go SS.  The CF pipes are know to be just as accurate.  I have the 24" 6.5CM CF.
