Features are a lot of personal preference as it usually comes down to things like 60 degree bolt throw vs 90 and two vs three lug bolt and push feed vs controlled. Other little things like integral recoil lug and integral base come in as well. Me I like a 700 feel so two lugs and a 90 degree throw work fine. Have always used push feed actions but just got a Bighorn TL3 controlled and it works fine too. The integral recoil is nice if swapping barrels a lot as you don't have to worry about the recoil lug falling off but even the pinned recoil lugs work. Have an action with them and no issues. Same with integral bases. Have one with it in a Surgeon but all others are screwed on and no issues with them either.
I like Manners stocks with the mini chassis in them. Best of a chassis and stock feel. Not a fan of AR style grips on my bolt guns but again that's personal preference.
As to models to avoid, any of the big names you hear about are fine and make good products. Impact, Bighorn, Defiance, etc.
