What kind of accuracy are you guys getting out of your tack driver gas guns when feeding them cheap ammo? Specifically PPU M80 manila colored box or say armscor or PMC bronze? Does your other wise sub moa or better with FGMM turn to a 2, 3, maybe even 4 moa gun?

PPU ball is amazingly accurate out of my rifle, the other one likes it as well. The one that has a stainless match barrel that is easily sub MOA likes it too, I can get 2 -2.5 MOA out of it at 100 yards most of the time.

Sub MOA at 100 with 175 otm ammo. Never bothered to check accuracy of ball at 100. But at 200 yards with a red dot I see 2-4 MOA with XM80. Honestly it was better than I expected.

My 22" JP .308 with my pet load is 1/2 moa easy with 175gr.   If I shoot factory 147gr M80 stuff and it's a fucking shotgun.  I get alittle better groups (2ish moa) with PPU.  But dear god.. it HATES 147s

Ok cool that leads me to believe it's the ammo, not the gun. Will try some federal gmm this weekend and see how things go.

Omg what a difference. I knew it was there was an accuracy difference, just didn't realize it was that significant.

I have the same barrel.   It, too HATES 147 grain flat base.....BUT....if you use PMC Bronze 147 grains BOAT TAIL....it's actually a very respectable shooter.

Give some a try and tell me if you have the same experience.

my new tikka t3x .223 varmint was doing 4" groups with cheap no name bulk 55g. I was less than pleased my dads 181 series mini 14 was shooting better. and my larue stealth was also shooting better.

I'll pick up a box next time I'm out and let you know.

My .223 goes from .9 moa to 2 moa with my plinker load. The 6.5G goes from .8moa to 1.2 moa with my plinker load.

My Grendel plinker load uses better bullets(twice the cost) than the .223 load so it makes sense that there is less of a difference on the Grendel.

My plinker loads are thrown together handloads with zero development. The only factory ammo I buy is cheap Bimetal jacket stuff and don't want to shoot it through these guns.

Have 2 308 ar's.  Neither one likes anything less than 165 grainers (even quality handloaded bullets), and both have shorter 1::10 barrels.  They go from 1/2 moa to 2moa with any lighter bullets.  The other gassers owned do very well with decent surplus but they all have open sights with slower twists (FALs/M1As)

The 223's in 1::9 twists are less sensitive and can get 1.5 moa with cheap 55 fmj's.

Have just gotten one 6.5 cm AR, and not putting any plinker rounds through it.

I did an experiment with some Boat Tail lightweights ( 150 grain handloads) out of my Bergara HMR today.  The Hornady 150 BT FMJ was not too bad at about 2 inches.  The Sierra 150 grain BT 150, on the other hand....whew....it was easily a five inch group.  Note that each bullet is very differently shaped.

The same powder and the same charge ( 41 grains which is pretty much a case filler!!! ) of  IMR 4064 will drive heavier bullets out of my HMR very respectably as long as I do my part.  I don't know if I used a ball powder or less voluminous stick powder and drove the Seirras faster ( or slower ) would work or not.

If I can ever get my new load room set up....I think I will experiment with this.
