I proceeded to try and swap out the factory grip for a Anarchy Penguin grip on my Savage Axis II Precision rifle with MDT chassis and when I tried to tighten the grip screw it appears that the threads that accept the grip screw were stripped from the factory. I guessing my only option is to tap the threads with a larger size tap and screw?

Thread insert would be the way to go.

Like a Helicoil or something similar?
I assume I'll have to take the rifle apart to access the area better?

Upon further investigation, after disassembly I discovered there is a dowel nut that accepts the grip screw that shifted over and made it seem as if the threads had been stripped. All is well now. Thanks for the quick replies nonetheless.Attachment Attached File
