Going to make some pillars to bed my new Savage 12FV and Boyd's stock.  I have both steel and aluminum on hand, any reason to prefer one over the other?  Thanks.

I would think the material should be softer than the action ? Also Aluminum is much easier to machine and won't rust.

Steel.
Action is steel, screws are steel.
Steel pillars and everything expands/contracts at the same rate.
Aluminum expands/contracts @ 3X the rate of steel.
