Gen 2 in 6.5 Creedmoor...I posted some thoughts about plans for this a while back.

Barrel cut down to 19 inches
18 inch Midwest Industries hand guard
Specwar 556K in there for pic purposes, should get my omega any day now (Feb 7 check cashed, bought a warlock at same time and got it last week)

Haven't shot it much yet but looking for a range trip end of next week

It would seem I’m late to the party.

Haven’t had much disposable income lately. However, I’m looking at spending a couple thousand. I’m certain I’ll get a 6.5 cr. But I want a second rifle since you get so much with this rifle. I’m unsure if I should add a .308 to the 6.5, or if I should go 6mm.

Any ideas?
Thanks

I’m very impressed with the Redding dies for this.

Type S bushing die and comp seater.

They are speedy but worth it imo.

I ran loads faster (2700) and got good results as well, but I’m going to stick to the lower charges unless I’m shooting longer than what I currently do (100-300)

Anyone who installed  a seeking sp3r rail have the mounting  nut not go back far enough to allow the handguard screws  to tighten properly? They are not seating in the chamfer, and are standing  high at 30 inch  pounds. It is the correct rugernut, and is installed in the correct  orientation, thanks  bill

Mine went on without any issues.

Does your rail have the cutout at the bottom?

My Gen2 6.5CM RPR is set to be delivered on Tuesday. I'm not a fan of the Keymod rail it comes with. All my rifles have MLOK rails. What's the consensus on the Midwest Industries RPR rails - 15" or 18" for the 6.5CM barrel length?

Who has the Ruger aluminum bolt shroud? Mine wobbles worse then the plastic shroud it replaced. Same experience with the factory shroud anyone?

The replacement shroud is looser than the original. The one on the  .223rem I put on layaway yesterday was fairly tight compared to my 6.5 Creedmoor.

Still trying to catch up on this thread, but had a general question re chamber length and bullet jump on the 6.5 - did Ruger tighten up the chamber length on the Gen2's?  Seems like most are handloading longer that 2.8 for better results and less jump, which of course usually means moving to an AICS style mag.

EDIT - re-measured with correct bullets I'll be loading, and got .0060 diff measuring off the ogive, which seems more inline with what i had been expecting.

For those of you interested in the weight difference between the Gen2 oem 15" Samson Keymod rail and the Midwest Industries 18" M-LOK rail, I weighed both during my swap.

The oem 15" Samson rail was a bit lighter. The rail, barrel nut, and 6 attachment screws weighed in at 14 and 7/8oz.

The MI 18" M-Lok rail, barrel nut, and two attachment screws/key weighed in at 1lb and 5/8oz.

Thanks for the info.  I've seriously been considering going with the 18" MI, but I would have to redo my MC paint job.  Considering the RPR isnt exactly light to begin with I don't think anybody is gonna notice those 2 oz.  lol

Yeah, that's what I figured. I'm to the point where my RPR is not going to be used to hump it around the mountains, so heavier must mean more stable

My Sunday here in Colorado was like this

So I Duracoated my RPR into this

Here's what I did.....

First off, I got some heat going in my garage. It only took a few minutes to get it up to t-shirt temperature inside

Next, I adapted my paint booth so that the fans exhausted through the window

Next, strip the RPR and prep it with lots of Brake Cleaner

Next, mask off the areas you don't want painted and stuff towels inside the chamber to prevent paint intrusion

I'm going to use Duracoat's aerosol 'can in a can' product. I've used it for 4 years and have always had perfect results

I bought an extremely handy attachment years ago for my reciprocating saw - you strap the spray paint can in its cradle, and use the saw to shake it up better than your arm ever could

I'm switching out the rail from the oem 15" Samson Keymod rail for the 18" Midwest Industries M-Lok rail. So once the MI rail is prepped, in it goes to the paint booth for its first coat of Magpul FDE

Next up is the RPR while the first coat is drying on the rail

In between coats, I hang them from these collapsible saw horses. In total, each piece received 4 coats.

After the last coat, I take them to my basement to continue drying for two days.

After two days, everything is dry and hardened - ready for reassembly now. I switched the oem adjustable stock for a Magpul PRS Gen3 stock in Magpul's FDE. You can see that the Duracoat matches Magpul's color perfectly.

Time to take it my new sexy RPR to the range.

Hijo202-Do you have any pics or further observations of cutting barrel to 16 in?  Did you thread the barrel, lose much velocity or notice an accuracy increase? Did the rifle change it's preference for accuracy loads by going to 16 in? Have been seriously considering cutting my RPR 308 to 16in, and maintaining the original folding stock.  Have several other long target 308's.

If ya got the time, thanks much.

I took my RPR to the range for the first time and got some interesting results. After zeroing the optic, I shot a variety of different ammo/weights. Despite throwing a variety of 130gr and 140gr match ammo at it, it grouped the best with Hornandy American Gunner 140gr BTHP. It was consistently grouping into one hole at 100 yards. Interestingly, this was also the cheapest ammo.

The paint shaker is one of the coolest I've seen. And perfect for Duracoat aerosol. Nice job on the RPR too.

I ran AG 140g against the 140 ELD-M today - 140 ELD-M is better then the 147 ELD-M in my RPR, but the AG still beat both.  Wonder how much 6.5 AG I could have bought for the moola I recently spent on Forster dies, H4350, 201M's, bullets, etc lol.
