I have a Rem 700 in .308 with 20" barrel mounted in a chassis. It is a very compact package. I am now needing a scope for it. I'd like to stay around $500 and think something along the range of a 4-16x would be good. Looking for mil/mil. FFP would be good but not a show stopper. I think a 6-24 would look really big on this gun and thinking something that goes lower than 6x would be good when hunting. I haven't bought a scope in awhile so thought I would ask for advice.

Look for a used Gen 1 Vortex Viper PST 2.5x10 or 4-16.

Worry less about looks and more about what you need in the optic. A 5-25/6-24 would be fine on that and I have run them on my 20" but with wanting lower power check out this optic. That's one of the 2D reticle versions that Euro Optics had for less money. They had a 5-25 for around $829 with that reticle too.

Definitely is. A good reticle too for holds. For someone wanting to save some money and get a good scope this fits the bill.

The difference between the 2D and 7C is that the 7C has a center dot, .2 mil marks on the main horizontal reticle line and the whole reticle illuminates. With the 2D you get .5 mil marks on the horizontal and just the main horizontal and vertical crosshair illuminates. Both are very usable for holds and accurate shooting.
