So why the shift to the Stiller action? Why would they move away from one of the most versatile rifle actions to date?

CD Sorry for the delay been a long week on the ranges. 30,000 rds thru the one minigun I ran in 4 days without cleaning. I have no clue on why the change to the Stiller action.

[shrugs]. It does have the older style font/test on the roll marks/engraving (not as thick as the ones from 2012 - current). Also not sure if HCS Cerakted or KG Gunkoted the action. My bolt is Cerakoted because I sent it off the Long Rifles, Inc for some added features. |

Talked to Kevin at HCS. Says Alan will use KG Gunkote if I wanted them to coat the action--we'll see how that turns out. In other Mk13 clone-related news, I managed to secure a Remington MARS 20 MOA rail... that was a bitch and a half to find, but excited to have found one.

I think my 0 can't Sphur mount is 1.34" with the 5-25 S&B on a 30 MOA MARS. The Badger 34mm USMC M40 scope rings will work with my set up, but not enough space for flip up caps without having them touch. |

My BBL finaly shipped from Lilja. As soon as it gets here it all goes off to the David Tooley for a few months. So the question I have is this. It will be a long time before I can afford to put a Tan S&B PMII on it so I will have to make due. So what scope should I use in the interim? Nightforce B.E.A.S.T 5-25 USO ER-25 5-25 Premiere 5-25 Leupold MK8 3.5-25 |

I just ran across this for anyone interested in a little more info on the XM3. Its from Fall of last year but it has some BBL specs http://cmpauction.thecmp.org/detail.asp?id=2178&n=XM-3-Sniper-Rifle-S6544662
XM-3 Sniper Rifle S6544662 Up for auction is a DEFENSE ADVANCED RESEARCH PROJECT AGENCY (DARPA) XM-3 Sniper Rifle used by the United States Marine Corps. In mid-2005, DARPA worked with Lt. Col. Norm Chandler’s Iron Brigade Armory (IBA) to field items to expeditionary units in Afghanistan. Since they already had a great working relationship, DARPA contracted IBA to build and test lightweight sniper rifles that incorporated the improvements the snipers desired in combat. The mission was to be lighter and smaller than the existing M40s, while having better accuracy, clip-on night vision that did not require re-zero, better optics, and better stock, and it had to be suppressed. The barrel had to be short enough to allow maneuverability yet long enough to deliver a 10” group at 1,000 yards. If the barrel was too heavy, maneuverability would decrease, yet if the barrel was too light it would only be able to shoot a few rounds before the groups started to shift due to barrel temperature. IBA tested a number of barrel lengths, ranging from 16 to 20 inches and in different contours. Each rifle with a different length was assigned an XM designator starting with XM1 through XM3. In each case, everything on the prototype rifles was kept the same except the barrel. During the final phases of testing it was found that the 18” barrels had no issues keeping up with their longer 20” brethren. The final barrel length was set at 18.5”, and the contour was a modified #7. The straight taper on the barrel was only 2” vs. 4” and the overall diameter at the muzzle was .85” vs. .980”. This helped reduce a lot of the rifle’s weight while not negatively affecting accuracy or effective range. A number of the groups at 1,000 yards were <1 MOA. The Marines of I-MEF were the first to field test the rifles at Camp Pendleton. Shortly after I-MEF took receipt of the XM-3s, the first units in II-MEF took receipt of theirs. By mid-2006 there were dozens of XM-3s in Iraq. There were 52 XM-3s made. Rifle serial number S6544662 has a desert camo print with usual wear and tear that comes with a rifle that has been fired. The bolt IS headspaced and has been test fired. Both test fire shells are included. |

Anybody know the reamer used on the Mk13's? I see a .300 win mag navy mk13 but wanted to verify.
Also I see the mod 6 as a left handed gun but no where else do I see that mentioned? If correct was it to allow a right handed shooter the ability to work the bolt without breaking their firing grip or was it actually for left-handed shooters? |

The NSN for the Mod 6 states that it is just like the Mod 5, but left handed |
