I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I cant find good reviews. I picked up a 700P, 24" CHF 1:10 5R rifle, with HS Precision stock. Remington #86672.

Badger Ord. 20moa rail, Vortex precision rings, Viper Pst gen 2 FFP 5-25 scope, and a GG&G HD bipod is how I have it setup. Zero rounds except from the factory.

I have 100 rounds each of Federal GM SMK's in 168 and 175gn.

Should I try 185's also???

They were OOS.

Give it a whirl.

Berger website has a bullet stabilization calculator that should give you a good head-start on sorting out what weight bullets your rifle(s) will like.

A 10 twist will stabilize anything any commercial manufacturer would put in a .308 case.  My 10 twist stabilizes 220 grain bullets that are 1.53" in length @ sub-sonic speeds @ sea level.

In terms of which bullet weight - my question would be what would be your max distance to target?  If it is under 600 yards, pick whichever bullet your gun shoots better.  If you are going to be in the 1,000 yard range, you'll want something on the heavy end - probably 175 to 185 grains.  If you're a hand loader, you could play with even heavier bullets...

Thanks guys. Didn't know that about ELD vs SMK's.

I don't reload. I was wanting to try 1000 yards and 168smk has always been my go to for 600yds, which is why I picked up the 175's.

I'll break this barrel in properly and go from there.

I was looking at these for testing  https://www.federalpremium.com/rifle/gold-medal/gold-medal-berger/11-GM308BH185.html

Rebarreling is an option, that why I started with a .308

It helps that I work for a 07/02 manufacturer / SOT!

I've only got around $1500.00 in this gun, completely set up with NO used parts. Being in the industry sure helps alot!!!

(Rifle, scope, rings, rail and bipod) Ammo not included.
