I was fortunate to buy a $99 savage a17 last week. I will be getting a boyds stock for it shortly but I need help on a scope. I don't have a clue to which one to get. I'm hoping to use it for close range and long range (300 yards). the Leupold VX-2 Rimfire Scope looks nice but I think I may need more magnification than 9x if I want to use it for prairie dog sniping. Let me know what you would recommend and what reticle for it.

Thanks

This scope was designed in conjunction with the A17

It may be cheaper at other retailers. I don’t own one but am considering this scope for an A17 myself.

I'm using a Burris Fullfield II 4.5x14 Ballistic Plex on my .17 HMR.With a 100 yard zero the hashmarks are right on out to 175 yards with the ammo I'm using.

I have a 93R17 that came with a Cabelas Pine Ridge 3-9x40 with .17 HMR reticle, mounted and bore sighted.

It was dead nuts at 50 yards.  I haven't shot it past 100, but it's on.

It's nothing special, but still a decent scope for $100.

I can't imagine much of anything changed aside from the name, with their Caliber Specific Rimfire scope.

Like you, I also bought the walmart A17 rifle.  I'm using this Bushnell Rimfire 3 turret 3-12x 40mm.  I bought it last week when it was onsale.  Being  discontinued at Midway, I see why it was on sale for 119.  I'm using a EGW 20 moa rail and UTG quick release low rings.  I also polished my bolt.

So far, I've only sighted in the scope using the MOA turret cap.  I found the scope to be very clear   I didn't have the ammo to support some long range shooting practice/testing.  I used ammo I had to sight in and chrony.

I’m going to be buying a BSA sweet 17 3x12 to put on my Savage 93r17. I’ll post a review when I get it

I have an older Bushnell 10x40 scope on my NEF Sportster 17hmr.
It helps the old cheap gun and old cheap gun owner shoot better than it should.

I put a monarch 5-20 on mine.  The round is capable of really small groups under 200 yards and you'll need some magnification to take advantage of it.  If you add wind...you're on your own

I have a Bushnell Sweet 17 scope which works well even in low light where I have used it on varmints.

I had the sweet 17 bsa scope and was disappointed, I replaced it with a leupold 3x9x40 and is plenty of glass for NEGA. Hit 2 squirrels 🐿 with it this morning.

I put a Mueller 8-32×44 target dot reticle on my CZ455. Love it.

Got the BSA sweet 17 in, grabbed some cheap rings (because it came with dovetail rings) and mounted it up. Need to get it sighted but I’m liking it already.
