I've started shooting NRL.22 matches & I'm getting my butt kicked pretty hard.
When I'm in a normal prone/sitting/supported position, I do great. But when I'm in an awkward position I miss easy shots & its killing me. What resources are out there to help me learn how to build better positions? Since its pretty much PRS with a rimfire, I'd figure that those resources would work too. So...what's out there for a man who wants to learn? |

Take a course, YouTube, pay $100 for Vibbert's (JC Steel) online class, or MDS' online service, and find a mentor.

Watch and read some to get ideas but best to get to the range and practice. Practice positions you didn’t do well from and find a way to make it more stable for you using the one bag you are allowed. Practice getting into and out of the position quickly, smoothly and safely. You can do it at home with props and a safe rifle also.

Position shooting is position shooting - it's all based upon one of the 4 positions: prone, kneeling, sitting, offhand.
I will first make a recommendation that you find a good 3P Club local to you, and practice with them. Short of that, there are a couple of great books out ther, but the hands down best is this one: https://www.amazon.com/Rilfe-Prone-Standing-Kneeling-Shooting/dp/3980974618/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=ways+of+the+rifle&qid=1621365700&sr=8-3 It was compiled by MEC. Even the English translation has a distinct 'German' read to it, but - it will teach you more about position shooting than you ever thought possible. My copies are very dog-eared and well worn, even 21 years later. $74 is a bargain - imagine trying to learn all of this the hard way, by trial and error. -tc |

Shotgun is not good training for precision rifle. I have a friend who shot skeet/clays competitively for years and when he started shooting precision rifle he said it was completely different. Best way to learn the break is to shoot the rifle. |

You can be the best sling shooter and not do well in matches with different obstacles. In PRS you need to learn to get in and out of positions fast and smooth and in to others the same way. Each shooter might do it a different way due to body type and flexibility. |
