did the MRAD ever come with a non-fluted barrel? I'm looking at one that the guy claims is a NIB factory rifle but the barrel isn't fluted

Yes, many of the commercial MRADs came with non-fluted barrels.

More important to your buying calculus should be what generation the chassis is, i.e. is it a small or large breech. This has nothing to do with the caliber.

I was under the impression that the difference between the two gems was the gem 2 had bent holes on the rail at 9 and 3 o clock whereas the gen 1 only had screw holes at 9 and 3 for pic rail attachments. Is that correct?
