Hey all, recently came into some Federal Lake City M118LR....real deal, not XM118LR like most ammo distributors out there sell. From what I’ve seen, it seems to be very accurate ammo (haven’t had a chance to shoot it yet), but maybe not quite as good as FGMM 175. I purchased this to use when I have the chance to shoot further than 600 yards with my 168’s, so hoping it shines for the LR designation. Does anyone have first hand experience with the Federal Lake City M118LR and how does the American Marksman brand M118LR compare? Or any reviews in general on American Marksman ammo?

Thanks!

Yeah just shot some today and it was right at 1 MOA and just slightly over 1 MOA for the two 5 shot groups I did with it. Not upset with that.

Has anyone chrono'd the AM M118LR? for the price point it sounds pretty good for a high round count LR ammo. Thinking about ordering some but there aren't a whole lot of reviews around about it.

Just fired 30 rounds of it out of 2 different platforms:

PA10 w/ 14.5" p/w BA barrel, suppressed, w/5x optic. Fired 2- 10 round groups. Both about the size of a fist, around 3". Notes: rifle isn't exactly a "match" gun. 5x is difficult to get good groups with. And I was not using toe support, strictly a bipod from the bench.

Rem 700, 26" with 4-16x. 7 rounds in a 1" group. Had 3 fliers that I knew where off before the gun finished recoiling. Notes: I was not using toe support, and I was a bit rushed as someone was waiting to shoot. I think better would be achievable.

I ordered 1000 rounds of AM M118LR and here are my observations of the round/lot.

1,025 rounds were shipped in total.  Bulked packed.

All rounds were measured for overall length.
985 rounds were 2.81”-2.796”
40 rounds 2.791”-2.785”

All brass casings were marked LC LR 18 and annealed.

All primers were sealed with red wax.

Only saw denting on one casing.

Few bullets, around 30, showed signs of being pulled.  But nothing that would give me second thoughts about shooting the round.

I took a random sample of 20 rounds and weighed them.
Average: 404.3 grains
Hi: 405.9 grains
Low: 401.9 grains
ES: 4 grains
SD: 0.8 grains

All in all, I am impressed with what American Marksman is offering at $0.82 per round shipped.

Just shot some earlier today.

20" B-14HMR, "Ammo Inc" M118LR, lot # SMQ20E305-037, 125rd bulk pack from rural king.
Headstamp: LC 19 / LR
Magnetospeed sporter
83*F, 28.98"Hg, 72%RH, ~3300'DA
5 shots, AVG 2619, SD 14, ES 34

It printed about a 2¾" group at 205yds. I think it can do better, but this includes a cold bore (that had been snaked), and my first shots of the day.

I have some in the cooler right now, going to see how it does cold later.

ETA: the cold stuff, estimated 34*, soaked in ice water for 2 hours, did 2561AVG/7SD/19ES.

going to the range now with two AR10s to see what it will do.

Will report later in the day.

Does anyone know if this is over run ammo made a Lake City or what?

Well I’ve have shoot literally thousands of rounds of real M118LR in my M24. I think I was averaging shooting about 8000 rounds a year for over 5 years. In my M24, I could get 10 rounds groups under 1.5 inches. I never got to try any FGMM ammo in my M24 as we had to shoot what Uncle Sam bought us. The five snipers I worked with all could maintain sub MOA groups with M118LR now M118SB was horrible. Only one of the guys M24’s could get M118SB to group any where close to 1MOA.

I also haven’t shoot any of the AM ammo so I can’t say how it compares to real M118LR.
