Scenario:
168gr smk (308)
42.5gr RL15 (max of ~44)
OAL 2.783”
Peterson brass
CCI LR primer
HOWA 1500

Anything to be concerned about? I don’t know how short is too short.

Use a bullet puller and bring it back out a bit and reseat it to the proper clearance..Either a hammer type or a collet puller will work..just don't pull the bullet completely out of the case..And yes, it could be a problem if it seats to deep , it can make to much pressure..

Yea I know there will be an increase in pressure but didn’t know how much with 42.5gr and 2.78 OAL. I don’t have a puller :/

You'll be fine shooting at that depth, but use it as a fouler if you doing test loads.

That'll be fine. Shoot it

It’s not excessively short.   Might even be lower in pressure backing away.    It gets more of a running start at the throat, versus something five though off the throat.

I'm assuming you are shooting for 2.800"? That would be fine.

Below  I was testing the effect of reducing case capacity by shortening COAL. The load was developed at about  020" off the lands(308win/210gr Berger/W 748).
Your component combo may behave differently but it wouldn't go from safe to unsafe with .010-.020" short.

You can see shortening by  . 030"(shots 3-8 on the left) from the developed length didn't do much to increase the pressure(59k psi vs. 61k psi ). Again, YMMV
