Post testing, another range patron shot my target with a 223 :)

The upper left group was 168fgmm SMK’s to confirm nothing had shifted loose during the course of testing, but the barrel wasn’t seasoned following testing the Hornady 168’s.

Chrono data, 10rds each:

FGMM 175 Center strike: 2542fps, 12.9sd, 46.2es
FGMM 175 smk: 2454fps, 13.2sd, 43.4es
FGMM 168smk: 2516fps, 14.1sd, 41.2es
AAC 168SMK: 2591fps, 16.0sd, 49.6es
AAC 175smk: 2510fps, 8.4sd, 25.1es
Hornady 168 HPBT: 2520fps, 8.4sd, 32.2es

The slow FGMM smk loads had the best groups :)

Very Interesting to see the CenterStrike v. the FGMM comparisons continuing .

Just goes to show, how different barrels , can have different preferences.

Thank You for sharing.

Indeed.

Based on the M110 clone and the LaRue results, it seems the FGMM SMK options are the way to go for the Federal ammo since they tend to run about 2-5$ more per box than the Center Strike offerings if you shop around.

I’m also curious how well I can get the 169gr SMK to perform in either/both of these barrels. I’ve got a few hundred to play with, and enough Varget/RL-15 to burn. Luckily the GA HTF has supplied me with plenty of 1x brass to use. The LaRue Xtraxn chamber can be hell on brass, so I think once fired in that chamber, the brass is done. I don’t feel like potentially scratching my dies due to flutted cases.

I’ll update the posts with the chrono data tomorrow.

Just in case you may want to try a box of Hornady 178 eldx. That load shot absolutely fantastic in an LT gun.

For the price, the Sierra Matchking Competition ammo looks like a solid choice!! Once the barrel was fouled, I got a 0.32MOA group with a pretty quick 10rd string.

SD/ES was also on par or better than what I’ve seen from FGMM, with faster velocities.

There’s also a few tips included in the vid, but I’ll have a complete video detailing my gas gun technique once the snowmaggeddon storm passes.

Testing the Sierra Matchking Competition 168/175smk .308 ammo in a LaRue Ultimate Upper Kit.

Just watched it again. I need to find out if they are loading a 5.56 version with a 77smk!

I found 223 mentioned but can’t find a shred of evidence that it was actually produced. They really need to do a 5.56 version and it would sell like wildfire at half the cost of BH mk262.

Sadly, Sierra has stopped producing its own line of ammo.  Most all of what was left, has been sold out as a clearance product.

I was hoping my BA 6.5 Grendel barrel would shoot better than it does.  I'm seeing 1-1.5 MOA which isn't horrible but I know it can be better.  Toying with picking up a different barrel.

I had 2 of those barrels. After shooting factory ammo in the BA barrels and bumping the shoulder back 4-6 thou, my handloads for the BA barrels wouldn’t chamber in other 6.5grendel chambers….

Seemed to be oversized, and that was on barrels ordered 18 months apart, so I’m reluctant to think it was a freak occurrence but rather their chamber is just deep.

SOLGW 18" SPR. It's elevated my expectations for precision tbh. This was AAC, I shot another sub minute group with a 2900 fps 77 gn NAS3 load as well. These were with maybe 120 rounds down the tube.

I've had 3 or 4 of their premium fluted and unfluted barrels.  6.5 creed, grendel, and 556.  Everytime it's a disappointing start with trips to the range and then scrubbing them down to bare metal.  The creed and 556 barrels came around after running lapping bullets. The last one was the grendel and I would accuracy check with a couple groups and if it didnt look good I'd mag dump two 27round mags of wolf and go home and clean.  After 2 of those trips it settled out sub moa but better with 90grn.

I hate and love those barrels.  The look, feel and balance of the fluted ones gets me everytime they go on sale sub $200.

Shot the creedmoor Sunday and it's still a solid three quarter gun.

I'm not here because I make sound financial decisions.

Need to get my SOLGW 18” replacement. Mine had a terrible burr and ripped metal at the gas port. It didn’t shoot to my expectations.

Glad yours shoots well.

Other than being very undergassed with the .0995 port I can't complain. We scoped it and it's very clean inside. My shooting buddies and I have 3 and they've all been great. Hopefully solgw takes care of you.
