Hey folks, what powders and bullets are good for the 6.5 grendel? I have the following available Barns 127 TTSXgr, Hornady 123 gr sst bullets. I also might have some Hornady 129 sst. I'll mainly be using this rifle for Hogs and Deer at no more then 250 yards..
Thanks |

123 SST and 31.0 CFE223 get me 2470 out of a suppressed 16" rifle.
My shots are within 100 and I don't chase velocity. |

Sounds good.. The only powders I have available are cfe 223 and h335. I'll be shooting them out of a 20 inch barrel.

My Grendel loves 123 gn SST with 26 gn of H335 low Spread and speeds at 2550. I also load them to about .70” of the lands. Know my headspace is 1.221 which gives me .003 clearance in the chamber. I have also Tried A2520 with good results but the spread was a little much. If shooting hogs with 123 SST Hornady say the expansion velocity should be between 1700-2400fps. I have had great success keeping those speeds in mind. Barnes monolithic bullets need something like over 2000fps for expansion.

I built it. It’s a Atheris rifle company barrell thats 22”. I also use metal mags so o can increase Ojive more than poly mags. Come to think of it I think I have more powder then I quoted maybe 27 to 27.5 gn maybe close to 28. Hornady manual had max at 26.4 and hodgdon has a max of 28.7. If I remember I started at25 and worked up at .2 gn. My cartridge headspace is at 1.225 on fresh fired shells. So I have a little more room in the case. I am going from memory.

Currently using CFE223 but out of bullets and need to start workup with a new one. Thinking about H335. Will be using the 123ELDM which honestly should be close to my SST load.
Cfe223 use harder for me to find |

Midway has it for $40 a pound. Bad thing it’s another $45 for hazmat shopping

Midway also has 123 gn SST box of 100 gift $40.

How are the 129 gr sst? I have 2 boxes on back order that are supposed to ship in a week or so from opticsplanet.. Would H335, or cfe 223 be better? Or should I just go a head and place back orders for the 123 gr sst?

123 grain bullets, CCI 450 primer, W748 powder and Lapua cases always worked great for me.

h335 worked good with low spread and high velocity in an 11 inch and 13 inch barrel
cfe223 didn't work out , possibly because of the shorter barrel all with the hornady SST 123 |
