I got into AR based wildcats for a while and did:
25-223AR (x2)
6mm Mongoose
25x6.8
6mmx6.8
358 Yeti
And while all are cool and fun, my 12.5” 6.8 II with my handloads has just become my go to hunting rifle. Any deer from 300 yards and in is dead, and even being out west, my furthest shot ever in game was only 250 yards. All my rifles have dedicated suppressors, so the little 6.8 is just handy and practical.
With that said the 358 was a lot of fun, but I sold it just because I really had no use for it. My 308 AR builds ended up the same weight as the Yeti so it really didn’t serve a purpose other than shits and giggles, but I got tired of making the brass.
I also have a lot of respect for the good ole 308 and 30-06. With modern bullet choices, these two really are practical and versatile, but for me they are relegated to only elk. The 6.8 does everything else.
