That is mostly beta.

Here is gamma only, ~4x background.

The plates are glazed with Uranium oxide.  You are seeing reflected light instead of filtered, hence orange instead of green.  I bought the plates at a secondhand store.  I'm thinking of parting with the two smaller plates to help fund this little treasure hunt.

Can you recommend a decent calibration/function check source that's safe, relatively inexpensive and can be 100% legally purchased? One of my two meters is gamma only but the other one had a formica window to measure Beta and probably some Alpha (not very accurate).

Just pick an element suitable for your radiac and pony up for a calibrated specimen.

I have one.  It was fun seeing the expression on the technician's face when he heard the thing going off after giving me the 99mTc injection prior to my parathyroid scan.

Also, gamma pee is cool.

I have a CD V710 model 5 that I found in a thrift store. The needle is stuck but I can bump it around the low end of the scale. From reading these were discontinued because they only read up to 50R. Is it worth doing anything with? I already bought the GQ 500+.

Only useful for trying to find a safe path out of a nuclear disaster.  Replaced by the V-715.

Nice little collector item.
