Looks like a made for TV movie, in some ways better than The Day After.
Has a mood more like One Second After, not a great "survivalist" movie, but probably more somber and realistic than most.
Everybody pretty much dies.

Threads is free on YouTube.
British TV movie from 1984.
Very dark, pseudo documentary style. Carries the story out about 20 years.

"Threads" is scary as hell.

Also the BBC made a 'documentary' called "The War Game" back in 1966 that was so scary with what a nuclear attack would be like that "the effect of the film has been judged by the BBC to be too horrifying for the medium of broadcasting."   The film was eventually televised in Great Britain in 1985.

It was made for TV, but actually got a theater release instead.
I saw it a year later when it was shown on PBS.

Good movie, but I found it more depressing than The Road

Edit to Add: Carol Amen's short story the movie was based on.
The Last Testament: Carol Amen Aug 81

I don't think that anyone ever put the book to film.
I think there was talk of it at one point and someone may have bought the film rights to the book but never actually did anything with it

yeah thats a good one

One Second after is good -- but i feel like the world 'fell apart' a bit too quickly in rural NC.   like there were cannibals after 3 days kind of thing.  i'm exaggerating a little but kinda like that.   i need to read it again -- its been a few years.

will check out Testament

I agree.  IIRC, in one second after, the protagonist took part in a kangaroo court and extra-judicial execution for theft of drugs and assault (basically a doper robbing and I think beating an elderly person) less than 24 hours after the emp.
