So I’m the kind of cheapass who doesn’t like buying gear. Years ago, I bought this Omer on Craigslist with missing shaft, band, etc. It was basically a tube, trigger, that’s about it. Well I got a shaft, bought a MVD roller muzzle, and learned to tie bands from bulk rubber. I really like this gun. Almost more than any firearm in my safe. It shoots lightning fast and has killed a LOT of fish.
Fast forward, I moved to AL, and my bands and bungee dry rotted. I have no idea where my shooting line (it was Kevlar/dyneema) went. I have a trip to the Keys tomorrow, so I got building. I found some 200 pound mono, grabbed some double barrel crimps and made a shooting line. I trimmed a lot of the rot off the rubbers and had just enough left to rebuild my bungee. Good thing I have a mile of constrictor string. Stuffed it all together and tightened it up. Money!!
I just ordered some green rubber to be delivered in FL, and I’ll post pics of making the bands on Tues/Weds. Its just like how I made the shooting line, but it ends up as an enclosed loop with a bottom anchor point. Stay tuned! Fish kills will be posted in the Salt water forum.
Typically you clean up the band ends by sliding a nail inside the rubber, and turning the whole deal into a point on a belt sander, then remove the nail and insert your line. I don’t have a belt sander right now. So I settled for squaring it off.
