I think it's funny to look at the stations you work on POTA. I recognize some of the call signs as guys I work CW. There are some very dedicated hunters out there...

I'm afraid the weather is going to close in on him before I can get 7 more though. Cedar Breaks usually closes about the 13th of October due to snow. |

I was looking through my statistics, I apparently didn't get any hunting done in February. My goal for next year will be at least one a month, that and getting set up and running before I miss November at the new place.

Set up a JOTA station at a POTA site today...double win. 40 ssb was slammed. Got 12 quick on 40 CW. Then just kinda hunted around. Got several P2P SSB. Was the first time I had ever activated SSB. Did get Sweeden and Croatia on 17.

I called on .520 while at the swinging bridge area at grandfather mountain. I was able to get 4 contacts there. One was in SC which was probably 50-60mi south.

I’m heading to Cold Bay for some bird hunting today and bringing my radio. Hoping to have time to activate K-0147 and K-0144. I won’t have any cell or data. So I won’t be able to spot.

Myself another member here and another local ham friend activated a SOTA/POTA this weekend. It was probably the most epic POTA I will ever do.
I’ll try and post the maps here when I get to a computer but we were on a mountain top in North Ga at the NC line and talking to stations in Florida, Alabama, costal SC and TN along with south GA on 146.520. I've got some VHF contacts. But it's so flat down here we don't get much distance unless propagation is open. That's awesome though.

The bands are likely to be packed with DX contesters. I do both so I'll watch for you though. |

Agree with previous comments on how good POTA is for the hobby. Last weekend I heard POTA stations all over the bands. It's more accessible than SOTA for guys outside of the mountain states. A lot more casual operating than humping it up a mountain. Good practice for portable emcom stuff.

got 2 parks yesterday at lunch, thought about doing an activation after work today,
but at lunch, I discovered bands were crappy.. I heard a DL station and 2 other qso's on 20m and that was it. so I figured it would be a waste of time to do one today Heard talk of a geomagnetic storm causing issues (?) I also discovered that today was Thursday! I've been thinking this was Wednesday all day till I got home IF the band(s) look okay tomorrow at lunch, I'll probably activate a nearby park after work ( > 19:30 UTC) and maybe a different one on the sat/sun...we'll see. ETA: next day/Friday- it rained all day here.. band was much better... I hunted 4 POTA for lunch was going to go after work, but I needed to get something done so I didn't have to wait till monday. I'll activate something this weekend. |

I activated 2 parks today.
I read that HAMRS was the app for logging POTA/SOTA so I got it and started entering my paper logs from today. I can't find the answer, maybe my googlefu is weak? but I think it would be easier to enter a manual qso time than to have to edit every contact (?) |

Open up HAMRS and start entering your QSO's. You'll only have to edit the mins a bit as you go. |

Yeah HAMRS isn't so great for going back after the fact. You can use any logging software by the way. As long as it exports ADIF. I used N3FJP for a long time when I still did paper logs. It's still my shack logger.
HAMRS just gets used because it works on everything. Including phones, so portability is easy that way. |
