My son caught up with this guy this morning. He shot it at 45 yards with a 30-06 using 150grn ballistic tips.

ETA- The deer was angled slightly towards him and the shot was thru the front shoulder, we recovered the bullet opposite side under the skin at the end of the rib cage.

Funny you say that because it happened on accident. I told her I would help her drag and load, but her kill she gets to do most of it. Let's just say the loading process wasn't super smooth.

I don't hunt deer because there aren't any on my farm. We do have bontebok though, and a bunch of other species. This old guy wouldn't leave the camp he was in and join the others on another part of the farm. Tried to chase him out for 6 years. His teeth were worn down to nubs but since there were no other rams to fight the horns just got longer and longer rather than wearing from fighting. Accuracy International in 308win with a IOR Recon, Ase Utra suppressor and Accu-Tac bipod. Took a 200yrd stalk in toward him then proned out and zipped a 175gr ELD into the booping tube. Shot was not quite 200m at about 10 degrees down angle with a 3-5mph left to right wind so I held a bit high and just left of center predicting impact right between the peepers. Hit just right of dead center in his forehead putting me about 1cm high and a touch over 1cm right. Completely mushed the skull so it won't be any good for a mount but I'll turn the horns into coat hooks or something and the hide will be flat skinned. Very tasty meat, distinctive but not overpowering. He was almost 200lbs standing. Bontebok and the related and less cool looking blesbok are leggy bastards.

Connected with this doe broadside at 30 yds from a tree stand with a 100 grain fixed blade broadhead. Got one lung, heart, and nicked the other lung on the way out.

Thanks!  LONG time lurker first time poster. Awesome day. My hunting pal got a nice doe too but the sun was down by the time we followed the blood trail. Everything is deboned and ready for the freezer tomorrow.

65 yards with my suppressed 300 bo. He went about 25 yards. Heart shot. Still amazes me they can go so far with their heart exploded.

Had to take him because of the cool antler. It looks like it broke then healed downwards.

Cool! Keeping the skull?

I got one a couple years ago that only had a nub on one side. It looked like a melted candle.

I thought the same thing-broke off in velvet.

Planning on it. I haven't done anything with it yet, I may have to glue the antler to the skull if it is too loose. Lol.

No wall hanger but it's meat. Small 7-pt. I jumped him up right as I got to my stand, confirmed by my game camera afterwards. He came back around 8am and I shot him at about 15 yards. He went about 20 yards. He's been hanging with a small 8-pt who was at my stand yesterday at 9am... he's out there and I plan on poking a hole in him too.

Here is is back in Sept.

Here is his buddy... maybe tonight he will come by looking for him.

Got his buddy this afternoon... he was already at my stand when I arrived. Looked up and there he was, 40ish yard kneeling shot.

My 13 year old got this one 18 minutes after sundown on Sunday of youth weekend.

Dropped it where it stood.

Impact wound

75 lbs of hamburger.

Ruger American Ranch in 5.56
Remington 62 grain Barnes TSX copper.
Scope was a cheap nikon p-tac 5.56 4.5-14x40.
Distance, 48m

Rifle was a Win Model 70 Featherweight in 6.5 Creed. Bullet was 143gr ELDX with 42.1gr of RL16 in Lapua brass. Hit him where the neck meets the shoulder at an angle. No exit. Disintegrated the far side shoulder, spine, and lungs. Bullet sounds awesome but I was unimpressed. Instead of mushrooming it exploded in his body like a grenade (no pics - it was late and I took him straight to the processor)

18.5” spread. Gotta be 4.5 years old. Has a nice brindle color to his neck.

Got it done last night. He came in about 640PM and refused to turn broadside for me. After watching him for about 5 minutes he finally turned quartering towards me. Hit right behind front shoulder and exit mid body (you can see exit wound in pic).  Double lung and he still ran about 100 yards before crashing. Pretty new to hunting and this is my second deer taken, but my biggest thus far. Very grateful to harvest this guy.

Haha, same here. There was a father/daughter team hunting across the road from us. As we were low crawling to get in position for a shot after this deer snuck up behind us, we heard 2 shots across the road, followed by a child's yell "wahoo"! My son dropped his 5 minutes later, so successful all around!

I took this large whitetail doe late Saturday on the final day of Pennsylvania's early muzzleloader season*. The range was approximately 55 yards. The location was private property in Tioga County.

The shot entered behind the right shoulder and penetrated the chest cavity but did not exit. Upon skinning the deer, there was a large bruised area behind the left shoulder. It ran a bit and because the shot was a little too high, the blood trail sucked. It bled out internally.
  • Left handed .50 caliber Cabela's (Investarm) Hawken caplock.
  • .490 Hornady round ball patched with 0.018" ticking and lubed with October Country's Bumblin Bear Grease.
  • 70 grains of Old Eynsford 3Fg black powder.
  • CCI No.11 cap.

Attachment Attached File

It's my first deer with a smokepole. It dressed out at well over 100 pounds. We had a heck of a time getting into the back of my Xterra.

Between this deer and a button buck my friend took in the morning, we filled a gallon ziploc bag with fat that I'm going to render into tallow for patch lube.

* Inlines, percussion guns, and optics are legal in the early season. PA also has a flintlock-only, no-optics late season after Christmas.

In the "wild" I would never do it but we shoot at 48m.  The rifle is zeroed for that range.  My boy isn't a great shot but he can shoot 10 rounds into a 1" circle at 48m.

I wish I could bow hunt on my place but it's too small and the neighbors don't want us on their place.

Broke the ice with this nice little 6 point. NH muzzleloader. Haven't weighed him yet.  ETA: 141 lbs.

I shot him and he wobbled a bit, and went down. Then he got up and did it again. I reloaded the muzzleloader and looked up to see him gone. Then I heard a deer running off and couldn't believe it but he had just slid down out of sight. Never saw the other deer.

Got this fella yesterday with my bow.  10:15am he meandered to about 7 yards and I turned him into food and a wall decoration for my house :D  Not a great pic but it's all I got at the moment.  BIG bodied deer...didn't put it on the scale...but it was NOT fun dragging him up hill to the tractor path.

Pics suck because as mentioned it was freaking pouring.
