Going to be a long wait until youth weekend with my daughter.  Right now it is kind of tough being a duck hunter and not a bow hunter, but my best friend and his wife will have first crack at them as they live to bow hunt.  These are on our land and I have pictures all summer of the big one, which is pretty impressive by VT standards.

This morning right before I went out to clean up some shooting lanes

This is my third year bow hunting, but my first bow buck. 1st year I got a double on two does and a doe the 2nd year. We hunt public land, he's not huge but I'm still proud nonetheless.

First time bow hunting this year and it has been frustrating.  made several mistakes and completely missed an at least 8 point buck and a doe with my compound bow, and a spike with the crossbow.  Finally got a good opportunity.  Waited for her for 20 minutes to turn and give me a broadside shot.  she was stepping and I did not take in consideration the travel time at 50 yds. still connected and  the bolt ended up stuck to the tree behind her.  she made it 40 yds and then piled up in a thicket.

Good kill.

I wish I could shoot does in CA, cause they were everywhere but no bucks to be found.

My buddy hit a doe on Tuesday.  I hit the stand for the last hour of light after helping him dress it out but only saw a flash of one deer in the corn.  The property's changed a lot since last year so hoping to have some deer patterns down in the coming weeks.  One of these years I'll be able to afford some trail cams.

Updates:  Buddy took two more does.  Score was 3-0 his lead as of this week.  I put up 1 to his 3 this week, but I think mine's more fun to look at.

Barely saw any buck activity 'til last Wednesday night.  I worked my ass off all weekend and Monday and Tuesday, so I cut out early Wednesday on a whim.  Glad I did.  This guy came past about 4:40, he came through an unexpected lane but I found a hole and put an arrow on a quartering-toward shot through lung and liver, he was down within 50 yards.  Not 10 minutes later, another okay 8 comes through the same way, and ends up seeing my decoy and stands around in front of me stomping at it for 5 or 10 minutes.  Saw another buck before I climbed down to pick up this guy.

He had a gnarly G2 on the one side and a broken G3 on the other, but I knew he wasn't a Booner from the get go.  Still happy to harvest a handsome buck and contribute to this year's freezer-filling.

I shot him 9-16, my last trail cam pic was 9-26, found him last night. Not the way I wanted it to go but I guess it's better than losing him all together. I have well over 500 trail cams of him. He broke off his G2 before my first picture but as a 9 he still grossed 147 4/8". If he had the same G2 As the left he would have been just over 157". Me going about #270 doesn't help do him justice.

Today was the first day of PA archery season.

My 9 year old son Logan connected on this cull deer on our lease this afternoon... antlerless tag because both antlers were less than 3 inches. We thought it was a big doe... but we're glad it won't be breeding this year. We have some great genetics in the area so this was a fortunate accident.

First a big doe and button buck came into our food plot... then two more big does joined them. We watched them waiting for the big ones to get within 30 yards, Logan's max range. They hung around for a while then left, angling back behind us. About 45 minutes later, I heard a big doe walking under our box blind from behind, followed by another one. As they came out we saw they were both big bodied. We wanted the first one, but when we bleated the bigger lead deer didn't stop... but the second one did, quartering away. Logan put a Rage broadhead perfectly through both lungs with the Wicked Ridge Raider crossbow, clipping the heart and exiting through the far shoulder at 30 yards. Both rear legs kicked up and the deer only ran about 30 yards before piling up.

9 years old, and he got his first deer this January, a gobbler this spring, and this guy on the first day of archery. Looking for him to get his buck now!

Only had 3 days to hunt, the first two and a half days I did not see a single buck.

The afternoon of the final day finally saw a nice 5x5 at 1,300 yards. Ended up missing it (final shot was 5 feet left due to wind). Ended up taking this forky at 53 yards with a .338 Lapua Magnum

He dropped like a ton of bricks.

My Pomeranian assault dog is checking out my kill

Surprisingly no. I shot him on 9-16 and after looking all day on the 17th I turned my feeder back on in case he was still alive. On the 20th I went to look some more and no pics. On the 24th before I went out I swapped cards in my camera then went hunting in a stand I had recently set up on the opposite side of the property. This time I had pictures of him. While he did have a hole in him he looked to be getting around. One of the same nights I had him on camera within 2 hours my neighbor had him on cam about 500 yards away, so he was mobile. My last picture of him was about 300 yards from the stand I shot him in near where I park my truck when I go out. That was on the 26th, both am and pm pics. My uncle found him on the 4th, I smelled him when I was done hunting on the 3rd and was going to go back on the 5th in daylight and investigate the smell. I talked to my uncle the evening of the 4th and since he lives about 5 minutes from there he volunteered to check it out. Did not take him long to follow the smell. He was found maybe 50 yards from my last picture of him. My best guess would be infection got him. Had it been December or so when its cold it might have been a different story.

My boy tagged out last night, got his buck. I got my doe Friday night with him (he saw them coming first) so we now have 3 of our 4 tags filled. The only thing left is my buck tag. I'm taking it easy for a bit and taking him squirrel and coon hunting, might give some tries during the rut or even convert my antlered deer tag to an antlerless tag during late flintlock season. Not sure yet.

No deer yet.  I have seen some does, and took a longer shot than I should have and came up short on one.  I did manage to put a dent in the local coyote population this AM. This bitch came in to my stand site 3 times and the 3rd was her last.

KILL THEM ALL!!!!!!!!

I'd like to.  I usually only see them during bow season because that's he season I am in the woods the most hours, so I need them close.  She got to within 30 yards and I unzipped her guts with a 100GR slick trick.  She was booking it and I hurried the shot and hit her way back.
