Quoted: Question on MRE date codes. I know it uses the 4 digit Julian system. But this repeats every 10 years, so if I am looking at say 9174, how can I tell if that is 2019 (nice and fresh) or 2009? |

Yup, I was able to track down the menus from various years online and that seems to be the way to tell. They were a few entree and it was easy to narrow it down from there. I have some fairly recent MREs and the entree boxes don’t look to much different. The menus are the way to go. Obviously if it’s pizza you know, but hard to tell with the chicken entrees. |
