The 45-70 is more than enough for the toughest critters.

And, if I can get close enough.

I really need an updated pic.
Up top, the SR15 now wears a CQBL and a TA33. Hopefully the DAS can will be out of NFAjail very soon. Doubtful, but hopeful. Also hopeful that I can add one of the new Thermal FLIR Boson Core Q14s that are supposed to come out this year at $2K ish.

On the bottom is a FrankenAR with a 12.5" Noveske barrel wearing a SLR Solo rail sitting on a RRA lower with a LWRCI UCIW stock on the backside. It's got a Trijicon MRO, a Surefire M600 Scout and a DBAL D2 on it. I also recently added a TNVC TAPS.

8.5" blackout with ATN X-sight II.  It used to have a matching SBR lower but I've found the external battery pack fits perfect in the arm brace, you know for storage and transport when my arm isn't in there.

Not my rigs, but they slayed some pigs.

Went out with a few guys last night, Thermal equipped. One 300BLK, one 6.8, and one 5.56.

I was toting the one in the middle, the 5.56.

Just found about this sub forum, thanks DefenderAO!

Just got into this hobby 6 months ago, it's a hoot!

NV setups are PVS15 and TNVC Sentinels both in WP

PVS14 as a loaner

I use the PTS233 around the neck for long range detection

6.8SPC LWRC piston gun with Reap-IR and DBAL D2

.300 blk LWRC with XQ50 and MAWL C1+

I guestimate about 50+ hogs taken so far, i avg 2 to 3 per night.

On my fifth pig at 0145, stalked in 500m and click...squib...fuck.  pig took off.  Had to drive home and drive the bullet out of the bbl.  It took all of 45 minutes.  This LWRC IC gun was absolutely filthfy.  Spent the last hour cleaning the crap out of it...literally...crap.

Going out tomorrow night.  I hiked maybe 15clicks last night.  My old feet hurt, and my reconstructed right knee even more so.  I am not complaining....

I love my 233.  I wear it around the neck and its my spotter.  I have come to really like the outdoor alert mode.  The red is great to pick out wounded hogs that make it to the edge of the mesquite fields.

Did you get the updated firmware with it?  Or maybe you bought it recently enough that it was already updated.

Just because the lower jaw is attached to the head, doesn't mean it's a good spot to shoot anything you want to drop dead.

Next time try for the brain instead.  Good rule of thumb is to put it in the ear hole, not the mandible.

Also that's not a photo of a hog rig.

Slightly older photo; i got rid of the PA which is a great range scope but AWFUL for low-light hunting, and swapped it to a Bushnell AR optics 1-4.  Shockingly good scope for the money, *WAY* better low light performance.  and the illumination is superb.

The last pic on the tripod is my  buddiys setup. He’s running a 60mm MK3 on his rifle and a 35mm REAP around his neck for spotting.

Took a few days off work with a buddy and we built a blind/platform across from the little pond where we have the feeders. Worked pretty well!

Big thanks to Tom at NGI for changing the ground shipping to next day for the tripod on his own dime (I totally expected when I called to pay the shipping cost difference but he told me not to worry about it so big thank you sir!). Came just in time for the hunt and was awesome to use.

Got these little guys and had a lot of fun even with the dehydration from building the blind

How do you like the flir?

[Last Edit: TheStig] [#37]
This was my first time hunting with it but so far I really like it, no complaints. The recording feature works well, zero-ing was a breeze and I like the various color palettes. I have the TNVC external battery that I got for free from buying it from them which I highly recommend to increase battery life so you're not having to swap out batteries at night.

Upgrading firmware can be a pain since you have to contact FLIR to get the actual software and from what I've read customer service leaves much to be desired but have no first-hand experiences there. A friend has the older version of the same Thermosight model I have (before they were bought by FLIR) and developed some issues which he had to send in to get fixed and it did, just took a bit of time to get it back.

Finally finished my hog rig, at the same time my first stamp came back, and have been hooked on hogs ever since:

AR 300 Blackout Pistol
Lower: My 80 Lower, POF trigger, SB PDW, Nemo 300 BLK spring
Upper: Seekins Precision NX8 8” match
Acc: Rugged Obsidian 9, FLIR PTS536 Thermal
Ammo: Discreet Ballistics Subsonic 190gr 300BLK
Raffle Can “if you don’t rattle can it, it isn’t really yours”

The subsonic ammo works great, just waiting on my rifle can to clear so I can go back to supersonic for a bit more range and not having to dope so much at further distances.
