I have zero copy, lots of noise

4 checkins tonight TX, CO, IN, MO.

I had readjusted my IC7300 digital gain to try a different ALC setting, mostly for JS8. I have that dialed in well.
I thought I had it dialed in well for fldigi as well. Wrong. I have the MFJ 993B tuner. I like to run my digital at about 40w, so I adjusted my fldigi control to give me 40w on my needle. Except, I was on the bottom side of the needle, so I was outputting about. 0.8 watts. I noticed most of the way through the preamble. It's been like that for a few weeks. I bumped it up a bit. |

Reminder that we need a volunteer NC this week as well. Next week hopefully I'm done with working late.
30 min warning out
Light net, one plus NC.
Was monitoring, didn't hear a thing in SE OH.

Whoops... missed it tonight

I mowed right before the net and when I got to the corner of my yard saw water fountaining up out of water meter box, reminded me of the opening sequence to the Beverly Hillbillies. Turned off the shutoffs (neighbor shares the box) and it was still pouring out. The water co tech showed up right before net start so I didn't make it inside. Leak is on the company's side, whew. My neighbor said when his line broke near his house it was a $32k repair. . .

I should be present to NC this week's (5/8) net tonight.
Man, some of y'all start early!
I played with my reference frequency calibration and signal levels again so hopefully my signal is good. It's a bit odd after switching systems that I need to drive the transmitter at so much of a lower level, doesn't make a lot of sense since the sound card is in the transceiver and shouldn't change. |
FLdigi cursor strikes again! I'm out of practice.
Band was in really good shape, I had a lot of S9 signals tonight.
We had five stations (plus NC) make it to the net tonight. Thanks for stopping by! |
I should be present to NC this week's net this evening. Still 20M 14067.5 KHz only for now, reminders start at 2330Z.
Decent conditions tonight, a couple stations were a bit weak on check in but came up a lot
during the net. Four stations + NC this week. |
We will need a volunteer NC this week as I'll be away from the radio working. Should be around for a long spell
after this week. |
Severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings on-going here. Lots of lightning. I am disconnected from all outside antennas for the evening.
ETA: Strong winds here. Both my HF wire antennas are now on the ground, so I'm out for the night anyway. Hopefully will repair antennas tomorrow. |

30 minute out
Small net tonight. Two plus NCS, one of the stations was running portable from the boonies tonight. Great signal.
Thanks for being NC tonight, GreenDragon!
I should be around to NC this week -- still 20M/14067.5. Will aim to start reminders at 2330Z.
First reminder out... after I realized I was in AM and switched back to USB.
Conditions were strange.. I could actually hear and see the noise floor changing --
but overall decent. We had six stations + NC in tonight's net. |
I should be around to NC this week. 20M, reminders at 2330Z.
Small net this week, two stations + NC.
Band seemed very quiet but I copied both stations fine. |
I'll be present to NC this week. Reminders start 2330Z 14067.5 KHz.
Five stations + NC this week.
Conditions were quite a bit rougher than the last couple weeks but I mostly had 100% copy. Note there's a good chance I won't be back at the shack in time for next week's net due to a late appointment, so we'll probably need a volunteer NC next week. |
I've not heard the band this bad, maybe still too much daylight yet. I copied the NCS and the W9, no
copy at all on anyone else. 73, Rob |

@seek2
Thanks, that would explain it. 73, Rob |

Short net. One checkin that had to scoot early.
Real hard copy on NC tonight. I copied 75 % at best. I tried to check in a couple times but noticed power levels way down. It helps if you put the transmitter in USB-D .
Unfortunately, that still didn't work tonight. |
I listened but didn't hear a thing.

Updated the date.
I will hopefully be present to NC this week's net (small chance I'll miss it but nothing confirmed yet) but I'll have advanced warning if not. Bands have been a little off today so we'll see how prop is tomorrow. |
I'll be NC tonight and will start the reminders at 2330Z on 14067.5 KHz.
Man, propagation sounds like it really sucks again tonight. Just as bad as the last two weeks. I can barely hear NC and decode is about 50%.
I suspected my antenna may have had a problem, but I checked it all out this morning and all seems good. Not sure why the prop between me and net control, which is usually good, has been so bad the last few weeks. I'm also having problems hearing anyone else. We'll see how it goes tonight. |
Prop really did suck tonight. I still got everyone 100% but a couple stations were pretty down there,
with huge swings in signal strength. Five stations + NC tonight. Hopefully next week is better. I can't imagine 40M would work any better this close to the solstice, but maybe 17M might? |
I'll be present to NC this week's net. Last week conditions were pretty rough, we'll continue
to use 20M but if the band is super bad might try something else after the net starts. Reminders will go out at 2330Z. ETA: Who all is 17M, 15M and/or 12M capable? I'm running a tuner into the 43' so it really doesn't care about bands. |
Any and all here, no worries.

I can run all bands, but probably won't be home in time tonight.
OK, first reminder out at 2330Z.
fldigi cursor strikes again!
Conditions still pretty rough on 20M this week, but I copied everyone 95% or better.
Three stations plus NC this week. |
I should be present to NC this week's net -- there's a decent chance of thunderstorms, but if it's safe I'll be on the air.
Plan will be the same as last week, 20M/14067.5 unless it's so bad we have to go higher. |
Lightning in my A/O, I'll have to see what does or doesn't develop.

Active storm in my area but all the bolts have been miles away so I'm still planning on
transmitting. Signal reports are welcome, I'm still dinking around with input levels from fldigi to the rig to get a clean output -- especially interested in wider band views to see if I've got any splatter on either side of the olivia frequencies. |
20M was super quiet but prop was fine so SNRs were really good tonight.
Only one check in, though. |
I hope to be back next week. We've had family video calls the last couple of Wednesdays.
I'm around to NC tonight, but there's thunderstorms in the area so I may have to go QRT.
Currently the cells are at least 10 miles away so not an issue, but that can change quickly. |
