Not sure which forum would be the best for this thread, but I figured I'd try here first.
Kicking around ideas to transport two kayaks in my truck bed, while leaving room for bikes and other misc stuff in the bed underneath them (and hauling the camper behind the truck).
PVC is absurdly expensive compared to what it was a few years ago, so I'm not opposed to making it out of wood. I'm not concerned with the weight for payload capacity, but I'd like to be able to move it in and out with one other person.
I've google image searched and found the following basic ideas:
I'd do away with the bottom piece connecting the rear end (or at least make removable) and maybe make the top a bit wider.
This looks rock solid but pretty heavy.
I figured either design could be handy for picking it up and putting it down in the yard to keep the yaks off the ground for storage.
Question...
Wind pulling the yaks around. I'm thinking of mounting them upside down and with the back slightly higher than the front to keep the wind from pulling them. Is this a concern or am I overthinking?
If I go PVC, 1.5" or 2"? Roughly $40 difference for 5 10' pipes and 14 T pipe.
Any ideas or pictures of what you use are welcome.
