Im wanting to build a 300BO for hog hunting. Ive read both good and not so good about 8.5"s for hunting, so wanted to get some feedback from the guys that have. Ive got my eye on the BA Hanson barrels in the 8.3" and 10.3" lengths.

Im only interested in 300BO because of the reasons below:

-compatibility with other AR15 components already stocked
-can use the lower for my other short 5.56 uppers
-getting an Octane 9 from the SiCo promotion,  so can shoot it suppressed in about a year
-might also use for HD once the Octane comes in

I don't hunt piggies, that being said I looked into both options and read everything I could, the 8.3 BA Hanson seemed to be the answer for a 300AAC barrel. Especially if you are going to add a can on the end. Just my .02

Thanks for the feedback guys! Granite Ridge has 20% off BA barrels, so looks like Im going to pull the trigger on the 8.3"

Buy with confidence. Granite ridge is legit. I opted for a 6.5" v7 barrel bc the BA Hanson 8.3" was out of stock at the time. Hope to hear how well it shoots

I went with the 10.3 myself. What optic do you plan on using? Have a 1-6 Razor and a Eotech as spare's and I don't know what I should use. 100 yards or less will be shot distance.

PA 1-6 K.I.S.S. illuminated reticle. I liked the simplicity of it. Pairing it with an Aero Ultralight mount

I've taken deer from 10 ft to just under 200yd with an Eotech, I think they are the cats hind end for any hunting <100yd! Also took a hog @130yd. I really can't see going wrong with either, I just think the Eotech is very fast when things don't go as planned.

It doesn't really matter. I picked a 10.5" but only because I wanted to minimize muzzle flash until I got my suppressor since I was hunting with night vision.
